i tried using skype as a merely text base messaging system, but i got rid of it after the ten millionth time someone asked me if they could have a voice or video chat with me.

no, no you can't. i don't have a microphone, and i specifically have chosen not to get one. same with a webcam. i'm an extremely private person. i don't go putting my face and voice out there. i prefer text conversation and i find it really irritating that people don't take no for an answer.

LH is the only really interesting new game in awhile. it makes sense anons would want to try their best to ruin it. we aren't allowed nice things.

i realized i'm not joining this one game because a bunch of my friends are in it and i want to avoid them and that made me realize we're probably not as good of friends as i once thought we were

Sorry for the delay in answering, anon!

I actually first considered programming while watching CGI films when I was a kid, and the behind the scenes features for those films. While I didn't want to be an animator and what I do now has nothing to do with animation, the shear scope of what computers could do fascinated me. When I started looking at college and a career beyond that, going into something to do with computers just seemed like a good fit. I started out learning more about the hardware but circuits and embedded systems and stuff like that bored me after awhile, so now I work exclusively in software (though I think what I did learn about hardware helps a lot in understanding how to utilize my computer effectively when programming).

As for learning from the ground up, I think you definitely could if you really worked at it! When I got to college, I still didn't really know the first thing about computers beyond playing computer games and surfing the web. For awhile it made me feel really behind and I was discouraged for a time, because it felt like everyone around me was already designing apps and video games and doing all this other stuff that I wouldn't even begin to know how to do! But I think the important thing to remember is that you don't have to be a computer genius to be a good software engineer - not everyone is going to be Steve Jobs and no one expects you to be. Eventually I found my pace, I focused on learning steadily and didn't pressure myself to be amazing. The highlight moment of my college career was when one of my professors looked up from one of my projects and told me he thought I was going to be a great engineer one day. I think anyone can get there if they really want to.

One of the stories I also remember from my internship a few years ago came from a guy who was managed our databases. He mentioned that after he retired he wanted to become a history professor. I said that it was quite a change from database managing, and he told me he started out as a French major who did translations for an international company. As more computers started getting introduced to his work, he was the person who started messing with them, and eventually changed careers permanently in his late 30s. I don't think it's ever to late to start, even if you didn't grow up with a computer!

Also I talked about college just because that's the route I took, but there are technical schools out there that are starting to do various software and technology related degrees if you're not interested in 4 years of school. I think having a degree helps (it helps in any field) but I know people who haven't gotten a degree and are still perfectly successful.

Also, even if you get into it and decide the programming aspects aren't for you, there are plenty of other tech jobs working on computers that don't involve coding, like solution designer and test analyst. That's something to think about too!

I've rambled on longer than I meant to but I hope this is at least a little helpful, anon! Or inspirational maybe? At least not complete garbage, haha.
