Thanks, anon! I'm setting up some things now. I think I should be fine on my own, but keep an eye out on rpa and I'll let you know if I need help.

Setting:

It's a fantasy game with classes RPG style, ergo: teleportation via an overworld map that's used ICly?

I wonder if it would be interesting to have powers morphed into the kinds the classes use from the start, or in a game where power loss is mandatory, having power regains morphed to suit the classes--some mid-way point that allows players with characters who started off powerful to take a different spin on them.

Can I get DMC? I've never played it before.

I'm thinking of keeping it super simple ala

gamedirectory, with the same main categories. Each category page is listed by comm or journal-based.

Jamjar page will be the most complex, split into some really basic genres since there are so many jamjars. But I'm keeping it super basic. If anything crosses over, people need to pick the main genre or "other." The simpler it is, the easier it is to update.

Main link page is stickied, info and a permanent add/remove page is stickied, in case people want to toss updates at me in between rpa polls.

Once monthly poll can go up in rpa the same day as atp, where I'll set up a simple add/remove comment on rpa itself for people to respond to, that's similar to what's in the textarea fields. That's where the crowd can help. I can crosscheck with atp that day, too, to see if I spot anything rpa missed. Since it'll be somewhere public, other eyes might be on it too so the community can spot things together.

Should be pretty easy? The big part is just doing up the first list, after that, doing a once a month add/remove poll in rpa would just mean a few adds and removes. I don't want it to get much more complex than this. We have the gdoc for more detailed stuff but this'll hit basic category, comm or journal-based, and genre for jamjars. That's a solid way to list it while leaving at a level I think I can maintain super long-term.

... yes? you'd have to know a) what an RPG or racing game was and b) that those games are an RPG and racing game respectively in order to know you won't enjoy them.

not sure what's hard about this. you don't need to know the deepest ins and outs of genres to know what they are, and thus make decisions as a buyer.

i've played hundreds of games and i had no idea what a moba was, specifically, until i looked it up recently

i just equated it with "neckbeardy games i have no desire to play" so why would i know the definition lol

if you went on the street and asked people "WHAT'S A MOBA" you'd get a lot of blank stares

if you asked them what an RPG was you'd have better luck

rpg, yes. moba? no. it's a specific term that isn't widely used. even i in my infinite game ignorance know what an rpg and the idea of an mmorpg. i did not know what moba was until this thread. that doesn't make me an idiot or some newbie. it just means i have limited interests and if my interests aren't in the game types that fall under moba, i'm not going to come across the term often, am i.
