Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Re: New master game list?

I'd dig it! I recently went through the rpa google sheet and moved over the closed/inactive games so it should be relatively up to date, if you're making a starter.

What are you thinking of doing, having a sticky post listing all active games, then either link to app_this_plz or allow others to drop links to their games a la insane journal's RP ad communities?

I think that cross-checking with ATP would definitely help at the least, since it's well established.

I'm thinking of keeping it super simple ala [personal profile] gamedirectory, with the same main categories. Each category page is listed by comm or journal-based.

Jamjar page will be the most complex, split into some really basic genres since there are so many jamjars. But I'm keeping it super basic. If anything crosses over, people need to pick the main genre or "other." The simpler it is, the easier it is to update.

Main link page is stickied, info and a permanent add/remove page is stickied, in case people want to toss updates at me in between rpa polls.

Once monthly poll can go up in rpa the same day as atp, where I'll set up a simple add/remove comment on rpa itself for people to respond to, that's similar to what's in the textarea fields. That's where the crowd can help. I can crosscheck with atp that day, too, to see if I spot anything rpa missed. Since it'll be somewhere public, other eyes might be on it too so the community can spot things together.

Should be pretty easy? The big part is just doing up the first list, after that, doing a once a month add/remove poll in rpa would just mean a few adds and removes. I don't want it to get much more complex than this. We have the gdoc for more detailed stuff but this'll hit basic category, comm or journal-based, and genre for jamjars. That's a solid way to list it while leaving at a level I think I can maintain super long-term.

1) There are... journal-based games on DWRP??

2) I love it, good luck with the initial set-up! :D

iirc, luceti used to be journal-based, but journal based games have really gone the way of the dodo.

I miss them. It was so easy to avoid players you didn't like in them since you just didn't friend their journal and could mostly pretend they didn't exist.

Keeping up on add/remove lists was such a pain in the ass, though. And then there was the difficulty of getting started in a game when half the playerbase hadn't added you by the time you made your first post...

They did have their pluses, though. I wish we still had the option, even if they're not my personal preference.

Route 29 is, but it's changing to comm-based at the end of the month

Hey it happens. Thanks for starting them in the first place. It made things easier to have a format to copy.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-23 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
copy my format as much as you'd like, it's not like rp lists are © me.

i do expect royalties though, i need them for more paids.

BTW thank you so much for updating the rpa google sheet. That made this ten times easier. There are probably a few to add and remove that I'll poll the comm for once we have a fresh new rpa post, but I've at least got a basic list thanks to you.

No prob! I was also getting thirsty for an updated game list, but I'm too flaky to maintain it monthly.

I was just over at IJ and noticed that they seem to be way more active with affiliations and linking and sharing over there than we seem to be over here. Seeing your post was like an oasis in a desert.
