Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

oh and there was a ds one too, but they implemented a sneaky secret anti-save-scumming feature and therefore it is dead to me.

not ayrt but you're an anon after my own heart. i love me some monster rancher and i still play 2 and 4 to this day. it's a shame they had to implement such a dickish system in the ds version because it made minmaxing a pain in the ass when that's what's kept me hooked on mr2 for so many years.

i do think this is one of the few game ideas where powerloss would make a lot of sense, but at the same time, i would hope that people interested in a game wouldn't need "my characters have no powers" as an excuse to engage with the plot. similarly, i would hope the existence of powerful characters wouldn't inherently ruin the fun of players whose characters do not have powers.

i do think a system flexible enough to allow players to regain their canon powers is a good compromise, though. but then it kind of takes away from the 'classes' thing, unless you had to choose a class that reflects your canon powers in order to reaccess them.

no one talk about it

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Then say that rather than "it's so common" because if we were saying that labels that are common don't deserve to be labels then heterosexual shouldn't be a label because it's common to the point that people tend to assume a person is heterosexual until told otherwise.

Yeah, I agree demisexuality is overused as a label, but the fact that it is common doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It just is overused and people who think they are oppressed for being demisexual are morons since it is a societal expectation, especially for women.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
you do know you're talking to more than one anon, right?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
it's not a viable label. it's fake bullshit to gain queer points.

the concept behind demisexuality is NOT actually a sexuality. it exists, but it is not on the goddamned scale.

;) We'd consider offering pints, but only for anons willing to play GoT trivia drinking games with the very well-informed anon above!

Seriously though, thank you, and edited! Also made a note on that page that it's under construction.

i've really been enjoying cities: skylines, which is like sim city but with a really nice and active modding community & no EA bullshit

I can believe that it's a thing, but I don't see how it's a sexual orientation. Demisexuality describes when you're attracted to someone, not who you're attracted to. And it's really not all that uncommon to only want to have sex with someone after you've already been dating them for awhile (not just to feel more comfortable that way, but to only want it once you're already in a solid relationship).

To put it another way: if someone came up with a new label for people who experience sexual attraction at first sight, and the Internet started acting like that's a unique and oppressed identity, you'd think that's stupid, right?

all pc games

Civilization V - Pretty much the 4x sim game out there. Pick nation, build it up, expand, probably go to war at some point(s), say "just one more turn" 50 times in a row. Goes on sale frequently, you can get the full game with every expansion for under $15.

Anno 1404 (colonial era) or Anno 2070 (near future) - Similar games in a series, get the one with the setting that most appeals to you. There's also the far future Anno 2205, but I haven't played that so no idea how good it is. They're city builders, you colonize islands, build manufacturing centers, and ship goods around. Really good time sinks.

Tropico 4 - Better than 5, IMO, and can go as low as $5 for the game and expansions. Another city builder, much simpler than the Anno games. You're set up as the dictator of a small island nation and can do what you please with it. Make a benign socialist paradise where everyone is happy and well cared for, or go full banana republic and get filthy rich while your people suffer. Won't take up quite as much time as Civ or Anno, but still a good buy.

Stardew Valley - Ever play any of the Harvest Moon or Rune Factory games? Then you've got a good idea what this is about. If not, you play as a person moving to a new town to start up farm. There's a town full of people to befriend (and date and marry), two big dungeons, tons of fish to pull up, everything. One of my favorite games of the year, lots of value for the low amount it costs.

Crusader Kings 2 - Definitely the hardest game in this list to get into, but probably the most rewarding, imo. You roleplay as a noble in medieval times and have to deal with all the political intrigue of the time. Marriages, heirs, war, rebellion, spies and assassins, heresies, there's shitloads to do. There's a lot of expansions, but the base game and all but the latest ones go on sale pretty often.

can we all at least agree that demiromantic is the far stupider special snowflake label that gets thrown around a lot?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
actually, yeah

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
is it a good time for a new person to jump into roleplaying

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
oh yes. what the hell is that? you can't fall in love until you fall in love?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
sure.

having someone to show them the ropes is highly recommended, tho.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
only like those other romance sluts that give up their hearts to anyone walking down the street, demiromantics only fall in love with people they know well.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
