Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.

Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

cool, but her story's done and considering how the aai team's handled returning characters before i don't have faith they'll be able to do anything new or interesting with maya.

>her story's done

i really hate this argument. so, characters can't have more than one arc now? since when? why wouldn't you want to see how maya is handling being the master of kurain?

but then again i never really understood the severe hatred for the aai team either tbh. are the games as great as the original 4 (yes i'm including apollo justice in this because i really liked that game)? no, but i don't think they're objectively bad. i think aai2 in particular was really good. dd was anime as fuck and i don't like athena, but i still had fun playing it and i don't see any of the character butchering that people insist is there.

Characters can have more than one arc. But to me it kinda feels like they don't want to give them more real arcs any more since they fear fan backlash after what happened with AJ. ...aand I don't think Yamazaki's team is that good with them in general. (And possiblly because Yamazaki himself feels bit of a fanboy of the series.)

It feels like some vocal fans like the initial character arc and get really pissy if something changes the character afterwards, like what happened with AJ. So characters get stuck in the status quo (Klavier, Pearl, Edgeworth, presumably Maya), get an arc that leads back to the status quo (Apollo) or just somewhat return to the status quo (Phoenix). Or in AAI2 Edgeworth's case get pretty much the same arc again. I'd be fine with some characters staying the same, but no one seems to change at all.

I'd personally love to see how almost 10 years of being the Master have changed Maya, but it's pretty clear they're playing to the "YAY IT'S THE EXACTLY SAME MAYA I KNOW AND LOVE!" crowd, just like they did with all the returning characters in DD.

What I truly loved about AA was the human element and how the characters would grow and change, but I wouldn't trust anyone other than Takumi to actually do it well. Or... even do it in general.

phoenix himself was proof of the character butchering in DD. they reverted him back to his aa3 self because that's what "the fans love", and his dynamic with trucy and apollo completely collapsed as a result.

it is one thing to develop a character into a new arc, it's completely different taking their previous development and starting over because it wouldn't bring in the big buckz.

(apollo's cool guy anime angst was also ooc imo, if we had more history on clay it would've felt more natural but nope.)

I feel Apollo's anime angst could've had potential but it... came out of nowhere ("Oooh noo my super important best friend I vaguely mentioned in a previous case!") and it ended up leading nowhere and was quickly forgotten by the end of the case.

for real. i love apollo and i really like clay for what he was, especially since apollo's history is a blank slate and it was cool to add to that. but it was also a dumb move when we never see clay alive in the first place.

before DGS was announced i was hoping the takumi game was going to be an apollo justice prequel to DD that covers what was ignored and also treats clay as the intro case defendant or something. but that is..... wishful thinking and i should've known better lol (i still want to play DGS anyway)

I couldn't really bring myself to care about Clay because everything about him was so cheap. The "OMG THE VICTIM WAS THIS FRIEND APOLLO WAS KINDA TALKING ABOOOOOUT!!" reveal felt meh because I could see it coming. Also reminded me of how they had originally planned for Mia to be the victim in the first case of the first game... buuuut realized that no one would care if she wasn't introduced beforehand and changed things up.

It also bothers me how it was handled at the end of the case. I don't think Apollo had ANYTHING to say to the guy who murdered his best friend? And no one else seemed to care either since the focus was on Athena.

I'd love to see an AJ sequel by Takumi, but I think he's happier working with DGS where he can come up with new stories and characters instead of dragging the old cast along. I just hope I'll get to play it one day...
