a lot of fujoshi did latch on to niles/m!corrin tbh. it's a canonically possible m/m pair where both have traits (personality and abilities) that appeal to that crowd. wouldn't call it intentional fujoshi pandering myself but it's not too hard to see why some'd think it is considering that.

for the japanese fandom it probably comes mostly from the early reactions though. a lot of 2ch otaku were really quick to cry fujoshi pandering over the inclusion of a m/m option (and niles in general). but 2ch otaku do that with everything that even vaguely counts as possible fujoshi pandering.

best to just ignore it.
