Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

See, I hadn't watched a Gundam series since Toonami ran Gundam Wing and G Gundam. I was bored one day, decided to finish off some of old Gunpla kits that I've had for years, but I haven't had a stable living situation until recently, so I never could really do them. It reignited my excitement for mechs, so I thought I'd rewatch Gundam Wing... IBO just happened to be on the third episode about that time. Figured I'd give it a look, just because and well

I'm really hooked to it. There's a few parallels with Gundam Wing (if you check the comments on CrunchyRoll, there's a lot of discussion about how Kudellia is similar to Relena, and Mikazuki is like Heero), but with a lot of the... well, I don't want to say filler, but. It's only got a 25 episode run, to my knowledge, so it kinda makes every second count. Like honestly, Kudellia really is like Relena, but with all the things that make her an acquired taste cut out. And she totally just went HARD in the last episode, I was just so thrilled.

It's been a while since I've been this engaged with a show, but IBO really has me going. Haven't seen much of a fandom though, so I guess a lot of people are feeling the same as you, anon. It makes me sad, because it's been giving me a lot of feelings and I don't have anyone to really share that with, but. Not much I can do.

Thanks for stopping by, anyway.

so it's a gw contination? i'd heard there was a manga to that effect, frozen teardrop or something like that, but i was so burnt out on gundam at the time (i tried getting back into it a few years ago through one of the few remaining diehard wing players. BIG MISTAKE) i never looked into it further

i'd intended that as a one-off comment, but since you responded and i'm responding: hafta say, a big part of the burnout for me too (maybe even more than the trainwreck of seed destiny) was the fandom. in a way you were lucky jumping off when the fandom was still finding itself, because when it DID find itself shortly after gw and g finishing airing, it... wasn't pretty. there was a LOT of infighting between fandoms of different verses, more than a little proto-mra behavior, and it all just got a little too jeremy kyle for my taste

of course since the seeds failed to follow up on gw and g's success and zeta was kind of a nonstarter gundam in america is (i think) mostly a dead horse. so far as i know the only content we've got from across the pond was the dwg games, but when the newest one was a ps3 exclusive i couldn't even enjoy that, sigh

i'd like to get back some of the old enthusiasm because i still have a shitload of the old g and gw action figures and mangas released around the time and they still have fond memories. but then i remember the batshit insane uc purists and the crazy gw diehards still with us today (hint if you ever consider playing with a tlh zechs or a certain short-haired duo, run for the hills instead) and i just envy your freshness

enjoy your gundam, you sweet summer child

holy shit, I know exactly what short-haired Duo you're talking about. They creeped on me hard a couple years back and I keep thinking they must have disappeared / moved on to greener pastured fandoms by now but then I see them somewhere and it's... ah.

Weirdly relieved I am not the only one to notice them.

Anyway yes another old school GW fan here that abandoned ship years ago and never came back so holla.

Nah, it's a whole different universe, but a couple of the characters are very similar, and it has similar themes, what with the main cast being child soldiers and the theme of oppressed space colonies rebelling against Earth (which, granted, only takes place at the end of GW but-). The Lead Girl is just very much like Relena, in that she is a Naive Rich Girl who is gotten involved in things over her head, but instead of following around a murderous boy for a whole season, she immediately starts making the effort to understand the poverty and suffering around her, and uses her privilege to try to make things better for other people. In the last episode, she was like "Okay, I'm done trying to do this the polite way, now I'm going to start fighting people."

It was great.

BUT YEAH, no, I completely get fandom burnout, and I do vaguely remember a lot of Bad Things about the GW fandom back in the day. I was like, 11 at the time, so mostly I just stuck to reading fanfiction and looking at pretty pictures, so I wasn't too involved. All that sounds pretty nasty though, so yeah, I don't blame you for not wanting to get back into the game. I can tell you that Frozen Teardrop is bad, though, like it's really weird and takes place in the future but also has flashbacks? I D K. I haven't heard anything about it that interests me, other than the fact that it reads like bad fanfiction 8I

Also, thanks for the warning! I didn't know people still RPed from Gundam Wing, but I will be sure to be on my toes if it comes up.

(Part of me is like, "I am not a summer child, I'm 26 8C" but I also realize that if I'm not old enough to have been as deep into the GW fandom as you seem to have been, then that's probably a fair assessment. I will enjoy my gundam, and I may eventually pick up one of the side characters to RP once the series is over.)

Hey anon, you are not alone! Even though I wasn't that keen on the art style, I have been digging this series from the beginning. I love the found family aspects and how it's not just about pew pew lasers and who has the shinier robot, it's really more character-based, and even "weak" characters like Biscuit and Atra are really important.

I'm sad that there's even less fandom for IBO than there was for OO...

Who would you consider picking up?

Yeah, I was totally kind of not into the art style at first, since it's so mainstream anime style now, but I got over it pretty quickly. The characters sold it for me so fast (especially Biscuit and Atra, oh my gosh, their arcs lately have got me like "BABIES LET ME LOVE YOU.")

(I love Atra, she is a perfect, precious cinnamon roll, and I am just. Gosh.)

NGL, around episode 8, Shino came out of nowhere and slapped me in the face. I barely even noticed him, and then suddenly, I had a son. A loud, idiot son. I have an account set up for him, and I've got a folder full of screenshots I need to crop/resize down to icons, but otherwise, I haven't done much with him. I'm just a little hesitant to tag out with him yet, since he is, admittedly, pretty obnoxious if you don't know him. (HIS character development has been delicious lately too, but h o l y s h i t, I am worried that he's been throwing up death flags).
