When the cat masturbates its chin

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

not op, but i've been a character at -world and have a lot of friends and family who have as well.

it fucking sucks.

you get a headband to keep sweat out of your eyes, but one time, my mom's slid down over her eyes so she couldn't see. she didnt really have to see for greeting (parents are usually super helpful, because they understand the plight you're in -- they'll put the pen in your hand if you don't take it, flip the autograph book right side up, guide their children for you, etc) but when her handler was like "okay, ready to go back?" she clutched the girl's arm as hard as possible and the greeter was like "okay, let's go!" then once kids were gone she said quietly "okay, what's wrong? is it x?" and mom shook her head, until the greeter asked "can you not see?" and she was able to nod. so the greeter gave her a running blind person commentary while walking her back. "okay, there's a small step up. kid to your left. turning right now" etc until they were backstage and she could take the head off and get the headband.

during summer, you're only out for 40 minutes at a time. you will be pouring sweat by the end of a forty-minute shift, even when they keep you in the shade (they do their best to do this, but it doesn't always happen), even if you wear as little as possible (usually it's a tank top and short shorts). but they keep the back stocked to the brim with ice, water, and powerade. it's been a long time since i was a character but i think it was 40 minutes on, 40 minutes off, so you had time to cool down, and if you showed any symptoms AT ALL of heat sickness they took you out for the day. you could be sent home or sent out as a handler (most of the handlers are characters too).

handlers were lifesavers tbh. anytime you were in trouble or a parent wasn't helpful, the handler is there to help you and keep you safe.

also keep in mind that most people who work at disneyworld have been living in florida for long enough to be somewhat used to the heat, and thus have a higher tolerance for heat sickness. a florida native in a character suit is a lot different from a new york native in a character suit.

i'm not a character, dude. i work in a completely different department.

i will say that our uniforms (which we call costumes regardless of where we work or what we do) kind of suck depending on where we work and what the weather is like. mine requires me to wear wool pants. you can imagine how that feels during the summer.
