anon, this case is grey as poupon, but Lori was not a fucking predator either. They were BOTH high on drugs provided by a third party. NEITHER could give legal consent.

You really need to drop that attitude if you expect to be taken seriously.

I admit this whole situation bothers me in part because, in high school, I actually knew a kid (14 at the time) who could pass for 18, had a fake ID and made a habit out of picking up older guys for one-night stands and lying to them about his age.

He was a fucked-up kid, and I think, looking back, that what he really needed was years of therapy, but I would be very, very hesitant to call the guys he picked up (mostly college kids who thought he was a high school graduate) rapists or predators. One of them was in a GSA group I attended a few meetings of, and that dude nearly threw up when he found out his hookup's real age.

Add a major drug problem into that kind of "grossly underage person lies about their age to pursue sex with adults" situation and whether there's legal culpability or not I just can't bring myself to assign Bowie moral culpability.

they just don't think this is a case of Bowie Evil/Maddox Good. it's nuanced, grey, it's not a black and white situation. you're ignoring the facts of the matter, and the account of the victim, to make a political case.

no one's arguing she was a minor, you fucking toolbag. you're the one clinging to the fact like there was informative decisions all around. there were not. what there was was an underage girl with a plan who had fake id and who lied about her age. technically he committed a crime, but he wasn't aware of that fact. she did not tell him she was underage. he did not know she was underage. he was under the impression he was fucking a legal and consenting partner. as far as he was concerned, all parties were consenting adults.

imagine what it would feel like in this day and age to be twenty-five, hanging out at the bar, seeing your friends and a group of people with them, all at a bar, and picking up one of the ones that was eyeing you up.

i think you guys keep forgetting what sex is actually like. no one who picks people up for quickies and one night fucks or anything actually checks to see if someone's got id or if they're sexually clean or whatever else you might do if you'd been dating someone for a while or knew them at all. these were two people passing in the night and one of those people lied about their age. it'd be just like someone faking a test saying they didn't have stds when they did.

she consented in that she went into it with her eyes wide open. neither of them was really capable of consent since they were both drugged up. he was the less consenting one in the party since he didn't consent to have sex with a minor.

what i don't get is why you don't seem to understand that sirens and lights don't go off if a guy unzips and flops his dick out around a minor. the fact that some people seem to think he should have just psychically known she was underage is what really befuddles me. how? 'she looks like a kid' is a cop out excuse since it's been proven she didn't.
