Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

are you kidding me? this thread digression is because someone specifically stated they wouldn't join a game with 'too many las', their marker of too many being a single cast or 5-6 characters. in an entire game.

that's not proof they're being sincere, or that it actually happens

please don't tell me you take every anon comment at face value

people are always making up shit just to start wank, be serious anon

Re: da

it's not proof it doesn't. when you see people complaining in game threads that there's 'too many las' when there's not even a 50/50 ratio, there's a problem. there are plenty of anime/non-la dominated games and most la players are just resigned to that fact. but when a game starts to get close to even or even has a third of it be la? it's 'too much' and game threads start to fill up with bitching about shitty casts. or people saying they won't app because 'there's too much bland white modelface on the taken list'.

no, i don't take most anon comments at face value, but i have seen people ignore games that have a higher than usual la to anime ratio and i have seen casts and mediums snubbed on both sides. it happens. arguing that it doesn't is asinine.

none of those comments ever sound sincere, though. they all sound like basic fucking trolling, and you're falling for it

OP

It happens. And honestly? I don't see a problem with it. Or rather, I don't see a problem with the idea of people not wanting to tag certain character types.

If someone doesnt' want to tag animes, or comic book character, or LA characters, or whatever, then that's their prerogative. More than that, games are always going to lean one way or the other in terms of demographics and what 'side' of the medium divide dominates the game. It's just how things tend to pan out. If a game gets a big, iunno, game of throens cast, than people interested in game of thrones will look into the game. Since GoT is a LA canon, most of them probably are LA players. Because, let's face it, not that many people play from both LA and anime, at least not in the same game. And if they do, it's usually more of an exception. The LA player with a Spike Spiegel account, or an anime player with a couple of LOTR characters. That sort of thing.

I think the problem comes in not from these divides existing, but from these divides not really being properly communicated. There's been so many dumb slap fights about these things that nobody wants to be the person saying 'yeah, I don't want to tag anime characters, generally.' As this thread shows, people tend to get angry about that even if you're just expressing a preference.

I honestly think the proper solution would be more canon-type exclusive games. That way, when a game is a free-for-all, you understand that you'll be playing with every canon type, and if you don't like that, you can go to one of the games that excludes characters you don't want to play with. A lot of frustration of people trying to LCW it and being shut off because nobody wants to play with them would be prevented.

Except anytime someone mentions making/wanting/idly thinking of a game that's western-only or la only, anime fans shit the bed. There were calls for the op to kill themselves because they might not have included drawn characters in their game. That shit's not okay and embarrasses me as an anime fan.

But make a game anime or drawn characters only or have it get that way via certain anime players squeezing out everyone else (ink city, hh, inugami, etc) and "lol pissbaby la players"

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
i mean, looking at this thread, i cant blame people for calling LA players pissbabies

Sorry your butt is blistered by people pointing out your hypocritical ass, weeaboo

Re: OP

dude, I've said in this thread that I'd be totally fine with LA players not wanting to play with anime characters in any capacity. The idea of a LA player looking at a game with 6+ anime characters and going 'not for me' is totally reasonable to me and I'd support that hypothetical person's decision.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, lots of anime players say that, but their behavior ends up telling a different story

okay do you actually have proof that inugami and hollyheights "squeezed out" la players or is this just the imaginary hill you decided to die on.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
try to get cr in holly heights or inugami playing from a western canon

actually try to get tags playing an older character from an obscure anime in either game's test drive. if you're not playing from teen animu flavor of the year, you're sol and people act like that's not a problem

this is the kind of shit I'm talking about. The "OMG STOP WHINING" reactions are de rigeur if you dare to mention that some anime players in DWRP are insular pricks

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
the thing that bothers me most about it is as soon as it gets brought up, there's a flood of NO NO THAT'S NOT WHAT HAPPENS, LOL BUTTHURT LA. it's not like anyone's saying all anime ever are snobs who won't play with las. no one's said that. no one said anime heavy games are snobby to las. what they're saying is that there are some anime players that are like that and it does happen and it's not being made up. but 'some' apparently means 'every single anime' with the reactions that get brought up here.
