well, here's the thing: the player involved CLAIMS that they did attempt to contact the mods, but the mods never received any such message.

I'm 99.99% sure the player is bullshitting, because it would be stupidly easy to get swept by AC and then lie about how you toooootally tried to contact the mods, they just didn't get it!! nobody can prove otherwise (though it goes both ways in that you also can't prove the message was ever sent in the first place).

even if it is true that the player tried to alert the mods, this mess is still their own fault for not chasing up the message when they received no response. if they were concerned that their message hadn't been seen, they could also have asked some of their gamemates to keep an eye on the AC warning list, just in case their journal ended up on there. then their friends could have vouched for them like "yo, player is actually away right now but they intended to hiatus/take a strike/whatever".

assuming their "message" actually existed, then it's unfortunate things wound up this way, but the player should have taken more care ensuring it was followed through on. the mods can't do anything about something they never received, and were acting perfectly within the rules in striking the player from the game.

actually, you could prove it to some degree. if the message is in your sent folder, you could forward it, and it would have the timestamp and everything.

but that requires the message to exist and have been sent.

ha, good point, I forgot about sent folders. I guess that's just another mark against the player's list of bullshit excuses that they haven't been able to produce any such evidence.

they posted their hiatus on the mod announcement plurk

that was their attempt at contacting them

no game accepts hiatus notices on the mod plurk because it's dumb and those get swamped

seriously? I was under the impression they'd (supposedly) tried PMing or emailing the mods, but christ, that just makes matters all the stupider.

Re: da

wasn't the player like literally in a third-world country tho?

da with no horse at all in this race but this does kind of feel trumped up. i feel like someone wanted this player gone and this whole ac rigmarole is just an excuse. mods work with players they want around; it's the ones they don't that they give the bum's rush

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
yeah it sounds like the player suddenly woke up in bangladesh with no memory of how they got there, its pretty unfair tbh

that's a tall accusation for someone claiming to have no horse in this race. the player knew they would be leaving the country for a time, and was apparently able to post a hiatus on a mod plurk (ergo they would have been able to post to the proper hiatus page, or PM the mods, if only they'd had two braincells to rub together).

they should know the rules regarding AC and hiatuses. all players are expected to know the rules (or review them as appropriate), so there was really no excuse for this. as another anon said, this whole incident was perfectly preventable, and would have never occurred if only the player hadn't been so flippant about assuming they could ditch protocol without consequences.

take off the tinfoil hat, anon.

speaking as someone who has modded games, you work with people who made a sincere attempt to do the right thing, not people who left a throwaway comment where it doesn't belong, in spite of it being made clear what does and does not count as a declared hiatus. ignorance isn't an excuse when the mods have done their due diligence to make sure every player understands what is expected of them. you only work with players who have fallen behind if there's a sincere lack of communication on both sides.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I don't understand this.

The player had been in the game for several months already so they have no excuse to not understand how ac works or how to get in touch with the mods.

They failed to contact them appropriately.

They realized they wouldn't be able to post to ac so they failed to contact the mods appropriately again. Looking at the danger list, they could have checked in with a strike at any time ac was up. If they weren't able to and couldn't contact the mods, they have fourteen cast mates who could have checked in for them since they're obviously in this thread ready to fight for them.

This didn't happen suddenly. The player didn't suddenly trip and land in Narnia so there was no reason to not get their act together before this happened.

Why should the mods work with this player after they made no effort to work with them?

And after all of this why would the mods want to work with them? They were lazy, inactive, and salty as fuck.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
my apologies to all the people yelling about how this person deserving their boot but i haven't followed this too closely

my understanding is that they gave the mods a first check-in and then a second that was lost? idk, if they were in someplace without internet (doesn't even have to be a third-world country, i have distant family in the sticks and the one time i went to see them they had no internet and i had no reception the whole time. it was a long 3 days) idk what else people were expecting from them

really though it's just the vehemence that gets me. if this isn't a bumrush, why are so many people so loud about how this player deserved their boot and good riddance and etc etc. most of the games i've been in, if you miss ac and it earns a booting (which is usually on some kind of strike system) you can reapp. i haven't followed this too closely but from what i have it's just been nonstop GOOD RIDDANCE DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU WHERE GOD SPLIT YOU vitriol

idk what this game is but if i was in the market for games i'd probably skip it. unless this player was some phase-level creep that's an unecessary degree of vitriol for someone who's only crime was missing 1-2 checkins

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
You can't reapp in Cereal because those are the rules. If you idle out, you can't reclaim the same character in the upcoming round. Those are the rules. Period.

People are saying they deserved the boot because they failed ac.

People are saying good riddance because they threw a tittybaby tantrum.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
you're right

you haven't followed this closely at all and don't know anything about how the player screwed themselves over and didn't take it in good grace like so many others who have accidentally fucked up ac. it happens, but do not blame or accuse the mods for that. THAT'S what everyone here is reacting over.

but more likely? you are that mun and now you're blaming all the anons here while taking zero responsibility for anything once again. i don't see how anyone other than them can fail to grasp the reality of this

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
The problem isn't that the player messed up ac but because they handled it poorly.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
wasn't their "mess up" exactly one snide comment on plurk? not saying it was in good taste or anything like that, but if people saying stupid things on plurk is grounds for this kind of venom, i think you cerealia people better get the coffeemaker going and order out for pizza because you might be there awhile

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Naw dawg.
They showed their ass, got called out on it, and made a snide comment back in this plurk but they were doing it in other plurks too to try and get their friends on their side.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
It was a whole 100+ comment plurk full of snide comments (which they've now deleted lol) and snide comments in others' plurks as well. It was not "exactly one snide comment". It was a whole tantrum.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
okay. NOW we're getting somewhere

still doesn't quite justify the vesuvian assfury here, but at least it's something more substantial than "made a tacky comment"

if you've got more deets or specifics on these deets, that'd be great. i'm kinda trapped in the cave of wonders rn, as in "wonders what all the fucking fuss is about"

also who the fuck is merry

people are loud about it because they acted like a brat instead of handling this maturely.

and because people like you keep defending them while in the same breath admitting you don't have all the info. so if you're not the mun/their friends, you're admitting to being an ignorant passerby with no perspective. you're not in a good position for commentary in either of those

breathe for a second and just read the replies here. i don't know if they're from you and your friends, or trolls, or what, but just read

unclench you guys. this isn't someone threatening suicide because they didn't get their way or someone forcing unwanted CR on their not-castmates or someone bullying other players through PMS to get their way. this is such a sad little sin i can't believe wankgate's even allowing it to be discussed

the way you folks talk about this player you'd think he/she ran over someone's dog. there's a thing i like to call perspective, it's awfully helpful in situations like this

(Anonymous) 2016-01-09 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
literally nobody is comparing this to any of that except you because this clearly means so much to you, merry or whatever name you go by

these are snide remarks in response to the snide remarks made on plurk, it's all it is so please unclench ty
