Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Reported a close co-worker for physical abuse of a child the other day. It happened in a moment of frustration and I could tell they regretted it afterwards but another staff member and I saw it and decided we needed to inform the supervisor. They're probably going to lose their job and there's going to be a police investigation.

I feel like the rest of my colleagues are judging me for being a snitch now and I feel awful and a little like reporting it is going to cause me a lot of grief in the long run but how do you not say something?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-07 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
they're going to beat the shit out of that kid even worse now, good job

(Anonymous) 2016-01-07 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
the child was not theirs so I doubt it anon

(Anonymous) 2016-01-07 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
honestly anon, do you feel like slapping an autistic child who cannot speak up for themselves in the face a few times in front of witnesses is something you can do without it having an affect on your livelihood?

yeah, I understand why it happened and I feel bad but I don't think that's something any reasonable person can just keep secret.

You can really tell when someone feels like they fucked up because instead of going to anyone (literally ANYONE) who would know the situation and asking THEM would result in a lack of ass patting.

So here's what you want, anon: I'm patting your butt. I'm patting it so hard someone should report me for abuse.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-07 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
what goes around comes around. op may think they're doing the lord's work but this is going to bite them hard on the ass eventually. then op can report themself for abuse.

what'd they do?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-07 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
they hit a child with special needs in the face. it was after the child had slapped them in the face first but...one person is an adult who is supposedly trained in how to handle these situations and the other is a child.

you did the right thing. "snitch" culture is bullshit, tbh. maybe don't do shit that you would need to be ratted on for???

i've also dealt with that being called a snitch at work thing and that was my attitude through the whole thing. maybe he shouldn't have been doing something that would get him fired.

If you get physically violent with children when you're frustrated, you shouldn't be in a childcare job, because children are frustrating. They can't help it. It's the responsibility of the actual adult in the situation to be an adult and deal with their anger in a way that isn't violent.

You did the right thing, OP.

there is never never never an excuse to hit a child like that, especially not a special needs one and especially not when you are expected to be a caretaker to that child, and that person should not be working with children

There are things that are commonly accepted deviations from the "official" procedure in a lot of workspaces that are kind of a dick move to raise a stink about, but physical abuse of another person is unacceptable no matter how you look at it.

especially in cases like these, you might actually get in deeper shit for pretending it didn't happen

(Anonymous) 2016-01-07 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)

it isn't your fault your coworker is probably going to lost their job, it's theirs for hitting a child. just like if you caught a coworker embezzling, punching another coworker, or watching porn instead of working and they got fired as a result. they made their choices, and they get to live with them.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-07 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
i bet you're on tumblr 16 hours a day and you shake and cry when someone doesn't get addressed by their proper pronouns

you're in a professional field, not the schoolyard. your coworker is an adult. they fucked up hard, they can deal with the consequences.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-07 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
pretty much siding with most of the opinions here. adults know better than children, especially special needs children. a kid gets mad and throws something at you, you don't beat the shit out of them for it. we call that 'child abuse', and when that's something that someone does who parents have entrusted with the well being of their children... that's not good.

i get that kids are frustrating as fuck. i get that special needs individuals are frustrating as fuck. i get that mixing the two together makes you want to do some drastic shit sometimes and it's possible for someone to just lose control and slip up that one time. but once is all it takes for a slap to be too hard and hit wrong or the kid to fall and hurt themselves or whatever other terrible shit can happen. on top of that, the parents are hardly going to be okay with someone smacking their kids around. childcare workers have to learn to be the bigger person. go outside. scream into a pillow. be the adult in the situation.

tbh, i'd be more upset if you'd seen it and hadn't done anything about it.
