Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

they're holding Seoul hostage, for one thing; they don't need working ICBMs to nuke the fuck out of a huge, populous city 80 miles from their border (or mustard-gas it, etc. They've been suspected to have a prolific chemical weapons program for a long time.)

there is also the fact that NK is China's pet, and even if China is condemning their nuclear testing, that doesn't mean that they'd be on board with an international strike force deposing their favorite pocket dictator in their own back yard. it would be hugely provocative and insulting to do that without china's cooperation, and china is a very, very major trading partner for a lot of the world. even if it doesn't start wwiii it would probably lead to economy-crippling sanctions against the countries involved.

that said i'm pretty scared about japan vs. north korea tensions escalating. they've slowly moved up my list of "nuclear crisis points that scare the fuck out of me" to lodge right next to india and pakistan

let's hope china's lack of support for their actions encourages them to step it down a little before they push china into actually trying for a regime change

You also have to consider the infrastructure updating that would need to happen and the millions of brainwashed NK citizens that would need to be reintegrated into society

I wouldn't trust China not to take advantage and SK isn't going to want to be crippled economically trying to feed these people. Germany is still recovering from getting East Germany up to speed, and the wall went down before I was born.

It's such a shitty situation :c

House of Saud aside, anon, most of the issues in that region were definitely caused by Western meddling in their geopolitics following the fall of the Ottomans. Britain at first, and then America and Russia during the Cold War, basically Ruined Everything.

that's a pretty dangerously oversimplified summary, but I would definitely recommend on reading up on everything we've done to fuck up middle eastern geopolitics well prior to Bush Jr.

anon, that literally created ISIS.

just out of curiosity, how do you think china would 'take advantage' of such a situation?

china doesn't want the nk regime to collapse because they want the millions of brainwashed peasants burdening their economy anymore than sk does. a nk regime collapse, while satisfying, would be instantly the largest humanitarian crisis in history, and even they know it

da

i was about to point that out, anon. if nk ever fell like that, the crisis would make the whole korean peninsula AND the chinese north-east area go to fucking hell.

op here

i live in japan so im pretty scared after yesterday, which is why i wanted to know. of course it's not /simple/, im not literally five, i just wish there /was/ a simple solution.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-06 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I hear you on that one and offer sympathy. I have a bunch of friends who live in Japan -- and I was there myself for their first nuclear test in '06. Shit is terrifying.

I really do think the best we can hope for is China using their leverage to tone NK's more apocalyptic tendencies down, because saber-rattling from the West is just going to convince them they need to keep building their arsenal before the hammer falls.
