rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Post-true ending. Just looking for general advice!

i can't give much advice but i can at least give you my hugest pet peeve--

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY DO NOT INFANTILIZE HIM

seriously he's pretty out there, but he's surprisingly aware of things and not just all 'puzzles puzzles puzzles'

he can actually care for himself, he's pretty damn smart when he wants to be (case and point: the whole thing with befriending Undyne), and he's just. he's not an infant. he may be out there but he's not literally five in mentality

All of this.

All I can add is: Remember, he's the one whose extremely neat, thoughtful and generally keeping stuff going regarding his and Sans household. He's way out there for sure, but he's more eccentric and silly opposed to being a giant infant.

also, don't over play the spaghetti joke. i know... its sooo tempting, but over doing it will take the humor out of it. Give it a new spin every once in awhile if you need to pull it out.

Adding on to the above, it's not that Papyrus is dumb. It's that he lives in his own world and he's the kind of person whose entire schtick is they're sincere and have nothing to actually hide. Sure, he may not tell you Thing right away, but it's because you didn't ask. He's aware of Sans' ability to manipulate time and space.

keep in mind that his friendliness isn't stupidity, it's just the way he is-- he's kind of a shounen protag in the sense of believing that friendship can overcome anything. when you insult him, he pretends that you're talking about yourself because it leaves an opening for him to make those overtures of friendship. unlike sans, he's genuinely willing to spare frisk in a no mercy run no matter what they do; he admits that he was really scared! but he wanted to believe that he could talk them down with friendship. he's honestly proud of them if they do spare him ("Wowie! You didn't do a violence!") and if they disregard that and kill him anyway, he expresses regret for not being able to help them.

he's not an idiot. he's a really, really good guy.

Papyrus likes order, structure, and cleanliness.

Like Undyne says, he never misses his daily meeting with her, and he always picks up his phone before the third ring. He tells you that he loves the library because the books are shelved by color, and he tries not to think about Sans' room because Sans never vacuums. I'm pretty sure Undyne talks about puzzles made of steam vents and conveyor belts and vomiting just to bug him.

And +1 to what above anon said; Papyrus acts like a shonen protag. A bit clueless, sure that if you works at something long enough you WILL get good at it, and he thinks that friendship can help anyone, even the dusty mass murderer who ignores his puzzles.

Speaking of. If you haven't yet, start a geno run. Ignore all his puzzles, but stop to look at Sans'. Papyrus freaks out and storms off. It's pretty great.
