I'm bad at this

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

do y'all not understand that some jobs won't let you off work unless you have something extremely serious going on

there's a big difference between "well enough to be working" and "well enough that a boss thinks you should be working"

(Anonymous) 2015-10-25 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah but when you work in a cubicle and only have a limited amount of time off plus a lot of work to do its not worth taking a day off just for a cold. you can still be careful about what you touch and wash your hands a lot.

service is a different story.

Must be nice to have a job that lets you get away with calling in at less than that. Would it be better for productivity if employers did? Absolutely, but try getting that through to a lot of employers.

my job is so short-staffed it's fucking hell when anyone calls in sick and i resent them if they're not violently ill. sorry. that just means i have to suffer all day in your place.

i'm sure i was a huge vector for colds when i worked retail, but calling out when i was germy but able to function probably wouldn't have been great for job security

(Anonymous) 2015-10-25 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
my manager has literally told me, "you can't call in today". I'm a server, handling people's food. coughing and sneezing a lot? who cares? the only time I've been sent home is when I actually threw up.

though tbh if a server does call in at my job it can absolutely fuck everyone else over for the night. last night, for example, i was sick but went in anyway. i was miserable my whole shift, but had i called in, the dinner rush would have been a complete shit show rather than just stressful as hell.

that's so gross.

if i was a customer i would have complained to your manager quite honestly. i don't want to be served by sick people and you probably don't want to work sick. managers need to figure out howt o deal with that.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-25 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
customers where i work have complained about sick employees on the job to the very same manager that required them to come in :( it didn't do any good unfortunately; they gave them lip service about how they'd be sending them home immediately but really they just had the server help with dishwashing until that table was gone

super gross

(Anonymous) 2015-10-26 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
that's awful. (though I guess dishes is a little better than food if you guys have a dish washing machine)

i'd start a yelp crusade. i'm pretty oversensitive because i have someone who is immunocompromised in my house so I have to be really careful.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-26 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
your yelp crusade would be way more likely to get the staff in question fired, js

that's how this works

(Anonymous) 2015-10-26 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That's unfortunate but people who need to be careful about their health should be informed of places that don't take care to prevent contamination.

ayrt

yeah it is nice actually, white collar jobs are rad

(Anonymous) 2015-10-28 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
i work in food and sorry to say, we're forced to go in if no one can cover us regardless of how sick we are. gotta love america.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-25 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
this is how it *should* work but unfortunately capitalism

(Anonymous) 2015-10-26 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
actually this more socialistic, communistic, and capitalistic thinking.

socialism, you work because it's your job to your community

communisim you work because it's your job or stalin will get you

capitalism you work or I will find someone that will.

There is no economic situation that helps with being forced to work and you're an idiot to think so.

i don't get paid sick days until i've been with this company for two years and i have bills to pay

i'm gonna be a little judicious about when i take off work, sorry

that's just how life is

(Anonymous) 2015-10-26 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
