Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

Re: HOW DO YOU CANON REVIEW/WRITE YOUR APPS?

For me, it helps to write down every single thing that's going on while I watch. It's definitely way too much tl;dr for an app, but it's a good reference. Yeah, there's a wiki that I could check, but if I watch it and then write it and then reread it, it's easier to remember.

Then I make a copy of that for the app and trim that shit down. For my last app (for a MLP character), it was about a paragraph or two for each episode that they had an "important" part in. For my current app (for a drama show character), it's about 800-1000 words per episode so far. I think 1000 words per season is a good maximum word limit, but I try to keep it as low as I can without getting rid of too many things that I consider important.

I try to work on the personality section while I watch too, at least to add a checklist of traits. Friendly, naive, kind of an asshole, whatever. Then I add onto that later. Appearance sections are always pretty easy. I always delude myself into thinking that samples are sooooooo easy so I save them for last, and then I struggle with them because I suck. And then I proofread and reword everything fifty times until it's "almost perfect enough" and submit it... and maybe edit a few things anyway because I have problems.

I obviously put a lot of effort into this and take longer than most roleplayers would. I know that it's pretty unnecessary, but what if I need to know that this character read a certain book in her English class or that she's interested in, I don't know, some band?! Or some other useless shit. I've gotten my past two apps done in 1-2 weeks though, so the one that I'm working on now'll probably take 1-2 weeks, maybe 3 if I slack off a little.

I just fucking love tl;dring, as you guys can tell. At least this keeps me from apping twenty characters and overwhelming myself...?
