On a meta level we've created a society that encourages weakness and fragility. The more affected someone is by something the more support and power we give to them. The stronger someone is and the less affected they are then the less help, support and power we give them. Our society rewards weakness and punishes strength.
We've actually created victim privilege. Where a victim gets the privilege of not only getting additional support that non-victims don't get but also the privilege of the power to censor other people's ideas. Victims get the privilege to have their opinions on an issue taken with greater weight than the opinions of non-victims. Victims get the privilege to tell non-victims which opinions are and are not valid on an issue.
Well people like freebies and power. So surprise, surprise, people are finding ever increasingly ridiculous ways to label themselves a victim to get those things. And it's a major disservice to actual victims who need our help and support.
