why are they using some mukuro icons then? i've seen a lot of junkos do that and idgi. if you need more icon material use panels from the manga or caps from the anime or smth, don't use icons for a different character. mukuro isn't junko, she uses poses junko wouldn't because her imitation of her is really off.

I don't know, I'd be okay with people using one or two Mukuro icons to avoid spoiling people who aren't spoiled yet when scrolling through reading pages and whatnot.

I know I'd prefer to see something when scrolling through dear_mun or player or whatever that isn't a giant fucking spoiler which some Junko players were prone to do a while back.

NGL I'm reluctant to post with my Junko account on dear_mun for fear of spoiling the game for people. Even if the icon isn't a giveaway, the username and the content of the post usually is...

I went with a more neutral username, but I'm still trying to figure out how to do anything with her without spoiling everything. I know the game's out, but it's a huge gamebreaking spoiler, so I think leaving stuff untagged is still a pretty messed up thing to do.

Right now, I tend to only tag castmates who have stated that they are fine with spoilers. It's frustrating because it restricts cross-canon CR.

but there's ways to avoid spoilers that don't require using icons of a different character. use a non-spoiler default for posts. there's plenty of art to use for that! like her magazine covers. or her dr0 artwork. or the bonus cg of everyone at the sports competition. or fanart that doesn't look blatantly spoilery. hell I'd be happy to make icons like for people if all else fails.

people have been shitty about spoilers before, that's true, but there's better ways to avoid spoilers than using icons of a character you aren't playing. especially since most of the junkos i've seen haven't done it because of that, they just do it to have more expressions (when mukuro's act is supposed to be off as fuck and there's plenty of icon material for junko herself to cover more expressions.

I was thinking that same thing, but I didn't really feel it was important enough to bring up to the mun. Icons aren't as crucial as good roleplaying, after all.

I disagree slightly on the "using poses that the real Junko wouldn't" point though. I think it's very likely that every pose Muruko uses has been meticulously practised from the real thing; however, the problem is that the poses are copied from Junko's "SHSL Fashionista" persona. The poses are "off" in the sense that they don't reflect the real Junko, but the image Junko portrays to the public and her fellow students.

... well, that and Muruko is not a good actress.

it's still odd to me. if you're playing junko and not mukuro, use icons of her. if you're trying to avoid spoiling people, use art of her that's not as blatantly spoilers as a default. like one of the magazine pictures or her art from dr0, or fanart that has her in a less spoilery outfit.

and yeah we're going to have to disagree on that. junko's fashionista "persona" is her real personality, and that's the one mukuro tries to mimic. and she's horrible at it. she gets one expression/pose right (the wide smile) and it's one junko only uses when she's about to die. the rest are either extremely off (the crossed-arms one) or ones that junko herself wouldn't and doesn't use.

mukuro's acting is off as fuck compared to the real deal, but that includes her body language and expressions.

But why is there any reason to believe that Junko's "fashionista" personality is any more real than the umpteen other personalities she switches between? How can you be certain that it's not specifically fabricated to interact with the normal world without arousing suspicion?

IMO, Junko's "real" personality shows itself in the final moments of the last trial, from the last Non-Stop Debate onwards. The sequel features some new sprites for her, and her expressions are very normal: for example, she has two "smiling" emotes and neither are the "wide smile" that you mentioned.

(And Muruko does get some expressions right. The pose where she's twirling with her hair is almost an exact duplicate of Junko's "disappointed" pose, and she nailed Junko's mannerism of holding her hand like a claw when upset.)

because dr0 literally confirms it. her fashionista behavior is part of her regular self, unlike the personas she puts up out of boredom.

you're going to have to clarify on what "disappointed" sprite you're talking about because i'm not seeing it. and the claw-hand thing isn't something junko does when she's upset, it's when she's startled. mukuro does it when she's angry, and it's not in the same way at all.

woah hello i just came on to see a mention of me causing a huge discussion uh

i know mukuro isnt junko i just used some mukuro sprites because i liked the expressions and i can see actual junko making those kind of expressions herself so i figured why not it wouldnt be a huge deal???

but apparently it is a huge deal i apologize to anyone who doesnt approve of me using them but i havent read/played anything beyond the first game and i like the sprites better than the anime style... not to mention i made this account before the anime even came out and i havent thought of making/uploading new icons because as i said before i like the set i have now

tl;dr im simply using the icons for expressions i know theyre not the same person i played the game

it's less a huge deal and more just... weird. you're playing junko, not mukuro, and the two look different, so it's jarring to suddenly see mukuro icons used for her.

more importantly though. if you've only gone through the first game, please please please at least check out dr0 asap. there's links for volume 2 (and some of volume 1) upthread if you need them but just-- read it asap. i wasn't joking when i said she's not playable properly without it.

if you need icon materials for more expressions, i could grab some of junko's panels from the manga for you if you want? she gets a much bigger range there than in the first game and a lot more for her regular self than in the anime since that focused more on her acts for the most part.

well the icons are cropped and have enough filtering that i thought they looked pretty similar enough to use them i mean, at first glance it doesnt look like two different characters but more like one character in two outfits (plus i only have 4 out of 15 icons that are mukuro so its not really that bad in my opinion anyway)

ill check out dr0 as you suggested, sorry i havent gotten to it earlier! and id like icon material but im not buying a paid or anything any time soon so i dont think ill need any new icons as of this moment, but thank you for the offer! ovo

it looks like two different characters to ppl who know them. that's why i said it's jarring. filtering really only hides the freckles and some of the skin tone/eye color difference, not things like the shape of her eyes. might not stand out as much to someone canon blind but idk.

if you give me a day or so i'll see what i can do icon material-wise. junko gets a lot of expressions in the manga (and the art style works pretty well for her imo), so even if you're not planning on getting a paid for more icons anytime soon you might still find a couple that'd be worth swapping in or smth.

junko gets a really large number of panels here, including a lot of that aren't a part of her personas. definitely some nice icon material here, though a couple panels'd need some editing because of the text placement.

thanks! after looking at the manga, i agree the styles pretty nice but i still personally like the sprites the most. but ill definitely keep these around in case i do buy myself a paid later on!
