Thankee sai

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

i just don't understand how some rpers function in the real world

like

my coworkers didn't give me ~trigger warnings for animal abuse~ when they were talking about how the humane society found a bunch of starving and dead dogs last weekend

and the tv doesn't give me a trigger warning for bugs before showing commercials for scary bug horror movies

and the poster board on campus doesn't give me trigger warnings for clowns before i see the flyer for the circus coming to town over spring break

You imply anyone who worries about theses things seriously has a job, watches TV or goes outside.

sometimes real world stuff could legit use warnings. my (completely non-RPer) friend who suffered with anorexia for years had a panic attack because of this one bullshit "anti-anorexia" commercial on TV that was described in glorious detail the steps one takes to stop eating. it was pretty awful.

not disagreeing with your post btw, I think a lot of people just need to go outside and stop hiding in their blanket forts every time someone mentions cupcakes. it's their fault no one takes warnings seriously anymore.

TV does give warnings for graphic (or "triggering") content. Shows are required to. So uh. Yeah.

I'll agree that people on the internet carry trigger shit too far (can we stop with the bullshit 'trigger' warnings for the word 'rape' or 'abuse', guys?) but stop acting like existing in the real world means you'll never encounter a trigger warning.

I don't know about you but I don't always start watching a show from the start. There isn't a warning on during a whole show. Commercials don't have warnings either, see the anon above. And some of the shit people claim are "triggering" don't even warrant a warning according to regulations, like a nature show doesn't have to have WARNING THIS NEXT SCENE CONTAINS SPIDER.

And you just completely ignored the other examples, like coworkers talking. What do you want coworkers to do, shout TRIGGER WARNING, TALKING ABOUT THE RAPE LAST NIGHT, before continuing on their discussion?

You get far less warnings in real life than actual warnings. It doesn't mean that people aren't legitimately triggered off the internet, but the OP has a point.

Plenty of people would start that kind of discussion with a "hey this is about animal abuse do you mind" or something like that.

And while bugs and clowns are common phobias, they're not necessarily common triggers.

My friends would. My coworkers would and do.

I'm not American though, maybe the culture here is different.

Animal abuse usually isn't a trigger. It's just completely terrible.

No, but the movie will have these warnings, and you can easily look them up.

Stop whining and just add that sentence to a fic/a relevant log. It's not a big deal.
