oh no man, i completely agree. aside from having dredging up fears primal and otherwise down pat, the actual visuals work incredibly well with the story and both end up being all the more horrifying because of it. stories that from just being described sound like they'd be too ridiculous to be scary (i.e. that jack in the box chapter of Uzumaki, with the dead kid chasing down teenagers by bouncing on a gigantic spring stuck in his guts) end up being the worst of the bunch, just because he can make them work.

not to mention he draws dead and monstrous people pants crappingly well to boot. i know there's this feral kid...thing from something of his i'm never going to know the origin of, just because the thing looks so damn disturbing.

The kid with more teeth than the Osomond family? That's Souichi's son by some horrifying giant monster lady with just as many teeth.

Except maybe not because one of those short stories ends with Souichi waking up and he's a kid again. So hopefully it was just a dream
