i've seen her before a thousand times. a lonely orphan kid in the middle of an apocalypse with a foul mouth who had to grow up too fast in this harsh, harsh world. no one trusts her to do anything on her own because she's just a kid, but she can prove herself damn it!! and maybe find family somewhere along the way. yawn. there was nothing about her that made her stand out from all of the other characters exactly like her. the part at the end with her survivor's guilt was actually pretty interesting, but bringing it up one time at the very end of the game in a minute-long conversation doesn't redeem the whole rest of the character from being boring.

it also probably doesn't help that i have less than zero maternal instincts, so that made me care about ellie even less. you're supposed to grow into the role of her caretaker (along with joel) and that kind of shit just isn't in me. i do not care.

marlene was the best character in that game, and she got shafted in terms of screen-time. i think even henry had more lines than she did.

what really gets me is that induced amnesia is now such a thing that they don't even try to explain it, and that drives me nuts. like in eden of the east, where somebody just get himself amnesia and nobody ever even asks HOW

IDK about time loops in anime, but clones are everywhere in JRPGs for sure. KH was my young self's first experience, but my most recent memory is various Tales Of stuff, including subplots.

I usually do most of my grocery shopping based on what protein is on sale and then I check budgetbytes.com for recipes that use it.

This means I eat a lot of chicken but that's ok. She even has a list of stuff that's easily frozen so you can portion it out and eat it later.

ehhh... clones are a big part of Abyss's story, but are they in any Tales games beyond that?

i actually have played and liked all of them, but you probably don't want to play anything before like...4 or 5, if you want any sort of story/characters. obviously given this thread people have a lot of really strong opinions about it.

it's like with any other canon: if you go in expecting entertainment, you won't be disappointed. if you expect the most perfect thing ever, you will be. for what it's worth i did enjoy the stories in general, however ridiculous they might have gotten, as well as the characters.

someone mentioned chrono cross on here, and i found that less easy to like; there are just so many characters in it that it can be hard to actually connect to any of the m.

Wasn't Abyss the only one with clones...? One out of a 20-years-running series is hardly "everywhere"...

i actually liked tidus. he questioned shit that happened and was sort of endearingly hilarious (and blitzball > the world to him, but tbh it was a pretty cool sport)
