does this sudden surge of hunger games characters seem like knee-jerk apping to anyone else or is it just me

nope, not just you

i could not care less about the canon, don't want to ever touch it, it sounds like the most boring and generic thing, and it's all my plurk timeline talks about lately. fad canon, can't wait to see most dropped within a few months

it's not like you have to play from a popular canon to get cr here, lots of big name or older characters are obscure and/or lone canon. so yeah, seems like a case of the fads to me

As someone who IS apping someone from HG- while I respect your opinion I'd like to add something:

If you look at the individual muns who are apping from The Hunger Games you'll see that none of us are the type to drop characters in a matter of months. Each and every one is a dedicated player who is legitimately interested in the canon and many, like myself, decided to join the cast BECAUSE of the muns involved.

Are we all apping at once? Yes, but it's in response to a book series that we all enjoyed and all happened to read about the same time. Take from that what you will.

This. I joined the incoming cast because I saw that it was a lovely group of muns who ARE dedicated and not about to app just because "oh good idea". I've tended to stay AWAY from sudden inrushes of canon because I've seen casts come and go really quickly (ATLA, MLP, Homestuck...).

But I love all the muns I'll be castmates with OOCly, and I'm excited to see how this plays out.

LOL. I actually...was in the MLP rush when everyone started applying into the cast.

But Spike is still here, what is it? Ten months down the line? And Haymitch will be too. I always look at the long-term when I app a character. I'm very fussy about who and what I RP, because I need to be sure a character will be there a long way down the line.

/replies with a journal related to none of the canons she's discussed here. But she is a lone canon warrior. With lots of CR. So yes, I am aware I don't need to play a big named character to get the CR. I've honestly done it because I want to play that particular character. Nothing more than that, I'm afraid, anons.

Also, I'm sorry if I've annoyed anyone with my hunger games squealings over plurk, I promise to try and tone it down.

im honestly not trying to upset anybody and i don't agree with the above anon who agreed with me about plurk or w/e

people can like what they like and talk about it all they want, that's what the mute button is for

im just legitimately concerned that everyone is suddenly really excited about this book series and apping within weeks of reading it--im confused why everyone is suddenly reading a series that's years old at the same time anyway but that's not the point here

i honestly like everyone who is apping into the cast and im not about to "not tag anyone from the canon" just because i dont personally like it, because that is lamesauce and who even does that?

my point was this: very suddenly, out of nowhere, lots of people are apping from a canon they are new to when quite a few of them have characters less than three months old

that's why it seems like knee-jerk apping to me, shrug

prove me wrong though guys, play them forever

when i say "knee jerk apping" im not saying you're all apping b/c it's popular, obviously you're not all out to play from big name fandoms

but op's concerns are the same as mine. we've had no luck keeping casts that app relatively close together, and 50% of them stay past a few months at best. it's concerning and while i like everyone who plays and is apping the cast, our past experiences are what's making me wary

prove me wrong, too. i will be legit pleased if you keep the majority longer. i'd love to see the bad luck we've had keeping huge casts broken off. i won't not tag them and i won't not respond to any tags i get, that's dickish. it's just to the point where had it been any cast like this, i'd have equally side-eyed and complained.

and even if it was, that would be pretty silly since a lot of the cast are saying they aren't apping just because it's "popular"

I'm not naming names, but there are a few of you who have apped and dropped within months, actually. So yeah.

i'm more worried about two of the applicants in particular. they often seem to app together on a whim, plus they already have a good amount of characters each. can they really handle more?

I am as well and as far as I know, from watching the plurks that were going on, they joined because the cast got so big. So I'm worried myself anon especially with such close cr those two have with a couple of those characters in particular.
