rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. I don't hate

selfkismesis, but he's definitely not worth the hype.

I vaguely recall the player once admitting they don't like the SRS stuff so much and just like playing out Karkat's more comedic tendencies.

So taken in context, I might agree, but I still really like reading them.

yeah, i kinda completely suck at the serious stuff. it's mainly a manifestation of my opinions about the canon and how to handle certain types of canon (comedic canons vs. more serious ones, how to keep true to the spirit of it-- hint: i usually play from comedic canons), but also a complete and utter suckitude at serious in general.

though, i think playing in Sing has gotten me a bit better at it! it's just always hidden in those really fuckin' long comment logs i tend to do. gotta hunt that shit down.

Yeah. People can take Homestuck super seriously all they want, but both Homestuck and MSPA in general have their roots in humor and it's still a huge part of the series.

Plus since Sing can't agree on a plot it's 90% slice-of-space-alien-life comedy anyway, so it fits.

Hhaha, yeah. Like, even when Tavros and Kanaya died, and you had the corpsesmooch combo-- something that could easily be perceived as an incredibly depressing moment in canon, it was executed in a humorous light. Because of that, I think that when given the choice between playing something as traumatic or humorous, I think you should lean towards humor, since that's more like canon? But that's my personal preference and thought processes.

also spoiler, i played in hetalia before homestuck, which had the same canon philosophy, except with waaaaay more sensitivity (since wow history can be incredibly fucked up).

It's what the other anon said. You're really funny with him, but I wish he had more depth. I don't mean angst and drama. I mean that Karkat always has a lot beneath the surface. For all of his over the top actions, he usually has something different he's thinking about that he isn't saying. I'd like to see it explored.

makes sense! i try to hint at that stuff, or (like i said above) it's usually hidden beneath really long comment logs (most of his convos with OU terezi go that way). but i probably de-emphasize that shit too much.

quick question, though. one anon once told me that all my posts with karkat are ridiculous and over the top, and that i should show his more serious side through posts more often. however, i don't think he'd be the type to post with very personal things publicly (outside of him completely snapping). what's your opinion on that? (sorry if i'm badgering you, ahahha. i just want to get a different perspective)

He definitely wouldn't be open about personal things, no. He can calm down and be more serious when he wants to be, but he's bad at handling stress. He's normally only really over the top when he's upset or worried about something. The things he gets angry about and the things he doesn't say or the way he denies them tends to reveal what the real problem is.

ffahahaha, it's chill. at the end of the day, it's rp. my goal is to be entertaining and have fun. i'm getting the fun part, but it's obvs i need to work on the entertaining part. no biggie.
