Everything is under control

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

You could also say that Calvin and Damian could be "grandfathered" in, since both have had a long standing presence in the game.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You can't make a rule to exclude some people, but say that others are exempted for bullshit reasons. That's just plain not fair and obviously excluding people that You Don't Like.

The age limit is now 15? Anyone under 15 has to get the fuck out, no fucking exceptions. Age limit is 10? Same fucking thing.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, you're probably not but this sounds Super Personal to you.

I've been in games where they implemented rules similar to this but had a grandfather clause. No one cared, as long as it was mentioned in the rules as to why there were exceptions in the game. I've seen it used for character ages to caps limits on canons (for huge casts like Marvel or Homestuck).

It's really not that big of a deal, but not really worth discussing here because I don't think the mods will implement a rule like this. There's been a lot of kid characters in the game and only a very small amount have caused "issues" like this, so there's no need to implement a rule.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
No, this isn't very personal to me, I don't play anyone under 18 and all my cr is over that age, but I still think it's very rude to make a rule, then say a select few players are exempt just because.

I understand that other games have done this, but I don't think it's right to make a rule suddenly, then say that it doesn't apply to so and so character. And yeah I don't think that the mods will implement a rule like this, but I figured I should at least let my bitchy feelings be known. Since that's what anoncomm is for.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It was just weird to read someone flip out and swear at a calm discussion about a hypothetical situation. It's understandable something like that would seem unfair to some, but if a rule like that is implemented (and I doubted it would be "suddenly", the mods here like to discuss things thoroughly before making changes) then it would be unfair to the players of child characters to be forced to drop them, don't you think? Especially if they had a lot of CR and in game establishment.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I do tend to use a lot of curses and stuff when I type, I guess that can be read as being very angry, but I'm not! I can hold back if it's bugging you.

Honestly I think a rule is a rule. Grimm's been in the game awhile, and I know they've been playing Trowa aged-down for a time, so why would the rule apply to them, but not Calvin and Damian? I would consider that unfair. And yeah I guess saying 'suddenly' would be misleading, it's not like a rule would get written up and implemented overnight.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Because Calvin and Damian have players who are conscious of their surroundings and take others in the game into consideration.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That still feels like the rule would be made specifically to exclude other players. You and some others may have a problem with Grimm's Trowa, but I do know that other people don't have the same issues.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
but we explicitly do.

until grimm grows the fuck up and realizes that putting her precious babby into a post that clearly was not meant for a kid, it's the best option.

anon who suggested grandfathering

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I just listed Calvin and Damian because they were the ones being mentioned. That's all.

Re: anon who suggested grandfathering

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm actually not aware of the other child characters in game, other than Homestucks.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Finn is (13), and so is Harry Potter (10 or 11 i think). The others I can think of have been in the game long enough they're older now.

Nah, I swear a lot, too, just made your tone sound very invested in it! Keep on cursing, sailor.

AH, no, I was talking about the rule in a general sense, not to punish Grimm. I don't think Grimm should be forced to drop Trowa, (I don't even have an issue with Trowa!), nor that anyone at anytime should be singled out any time a major rule change is introduced to a game. Like you said, if it's going to apply to one person it should apply to all.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes I apologize for any feathers I may have ruffled, I really didn't intend to do that!

Like I said up there, I don't think an age cap is a bad idea. I don't think CnC is a great game for small children, and I don't see a problem with a lower age cap of ten or whatever. But you just can't make a (hypothetical) rule and then say that it wouldn't apply to some people for whatever reason, because that is just straight up shitty.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, games can and do implement rules like that. It's the same reason Ay was allowed to keep what's-his-name in the game for so long despite being based on a real historical person.

And the other anon is right, you seem to be very invested in this. It's a little disturbing how quickly you've gone into overreacting territory.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry I type in a very bitchy and confrontational way? I don't really see a reason to be polite when it's all anon anyway? Like I said, I don't play anyone under 18/my cr is all over 18, so if this rule were actually implemented, I wouldn't be affected at all.

And I don't really know the whole story about Ay, but wasn't the fact that her character being based on a historical figure not mentioned at all until after she left? As in, the mods were unaware?

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
i haven't seen anyone go anon talking like this ever, even with as nasty as cnc's threads can get.

pretty sure it's still murder lmao

Like I said up there, I tend to type using a lot of curses and stuff, and I know it can be read as being very angry. I'm not actually angry, but I will cut back on using them since I guess it's riling a bunch of you guys up! So sorry if I came off as a complete hell-bitch, that wasn't really my intention. But I guess I should have expected it when I typed that up in the first place!

Nope :)

ayrt again

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
JSYK Ay's character was brought to the attention of the mods after he was accepted, and she was told by the mods that if she dropped him, she would not be allowed to re-app him since he should technically not have been allowed in in the first place. She agreed to that stipulation, dropped him eventually, then threw a tantrum when she wasn't allowed to re-app.

Re: ayrt again

(Anonymous) 2012-03-01 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, alright, I wasn't aware. I thought it was only brought up after she dropped.
