i have to write an important grade-making paper in the next approximately 18 hours, 10-12 pages and i'm still not able to do it because every time i open the document i freeze and my anxiety flares up really badly, which has been the problem since i started trying to write it a week ago

i'm curious. how often do characters die in your game? not npcs, i mean the player actively deciding to kill off the character.

i've never been in a game where characters got bumped off, except once as a perma-drop, but then again i've never been in a game with death conditions beyond temporary loss of privileges. idk if there are any games with more interesting death conditions out there?

well i meant in games where characters can come back, not necessarily perma-death. although i'm curious too about how many people decide to permanently kill off their character.

Anons I'm curious about AU/memory wipe games and how people legitimize playing fandom characters in them instead of just populating them with OCs. I've always had issues with AU fanfic for the same reason - if you strip the life experiences and formative events from a character (or change details like sex or something), logically that would (usually) radically change the character in question.

Do most people take that kind of thing into account, or are characters usually magically handwaved to being as close to their canon selves as possible? Like is it even possible to be considered OOC in an AU or memory wipe game?

from what i've seen people magically handwave everything to be as close to canon as possible, or they'll keep the character's canon personality the same even if their experiences were completely different- even if that personality no longer makes exact sense for the character's history. you really can't stray too far from either experience or personality, or you're not playing the character anymore, which makes those games tricky

imo it'd be a lot easier to just use ocs and there would be a lot more freedom, but this section of rp culture is allergic to ocs

I mean, if you think about it, we should already be there. The internet pervades almost every aspect of modern life. Most people have a cell phone and a computer and are constantly online with facebook and twitter, updating their entire life moment by moment for the rest of the world to see.

And yet if you get into an argument with someone on the internet, a third party invariable points out how you should just calm down, or some other variation of 'that's sad man it's just the internet.'
