Love thy anon

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I'm always here for you, anon.

I apologize for the lack of a concrete update, but I wanted to assure you and everyone else following this that we're still working. I've started on the FAQ and I'm getting the comms together tonight.

FEEDBACK REQUESTED

[personal profile] spacejam 2013-02-27 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'm back again, anons. I hope people are still paying attention to this thread, because I would like feedback on a couple of things.

Related to this thread, the mod team was brainstorming ways that the transporting into the setting could be made less generic. "You're randomly here because of a teleportation device, now you're stuck" is a pet peeve of mine as well. What would you all like to see?

The original thread on the proposed game concept is here for people who need a refresher. In addition, we wanted to ask for possible ideas on how villains could work freely in the setting (given that it is a large space ship and depends on teamwork and cooperation in a number of deployment missions), and what punishments for getting caught at villainy would be. None of us want villains to be blocked from being...villainous. There’s the opportunity for it during open planet missions, of course, but we didn’t want to limit villains to only being able to do terrible things when away from the ship. The ship is quite large (in fact, it’s more like ships), so maybe this will be less of a problem than we’re expecting. We’re stumped on how to deal with villains who are caught as well. Punishment systems and jails are hit or miss, from my experience, so if there are more creative ideas out there, throw them at us.

We've worked out various settings/planets/events and ship/game mechanics, but we're a little stumped on these two questions and wanted to work them out before moving forward, so any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi mods! Very excited about the game and glad to see so much thought being put into it. :)

It looks like some interesting ideas are being posted on that other thread re: new methods of entry - I particularly like the idea of having a sample being your character getting sucked into the game. Barring that (or working with it) what about having the characters answer a want ad; the station needs people, so maybe if your character comes across some form of recruitment that'd be appropriate for their canon (a herald for medieval canons, a want ad in the paper/on the internet/a weird text message - heck, even a funky dream) and even seems remotely interested, the ship takes that as an indication they want to come? This opens people up for "dragged kicking and screaming" if they weren't really meaning to come along and want to play out the reluctance, but also helps the characters know a little bit about what they're getting into before their ic intro.

Another method that I've seen work well in the past for people who actually prefer AUs/don't want to deal with the jamjar concept is to permit "native AUs", versions of the characters that have always lived in that universe. If you apped a native AU, you'd be a crew member on FREYA from the get-go - you'd be responsible for mentoring the newbies but also fully clued-in to the situation onboard, having actively volunteered for this mission prior to the game's start.

The issue with this method is that these people also have to come from somewhere, which means needing to create a solar system that built the ship....so a third option could be maybe having some OU characters having been on the ship already? I've seen "jamjarred, but came here x months/years ago" work really well in the past, as those characters are settled in already and ready for established play.

Re: villains! Really glad to see this is a concern and that the mods are open to villainous activity. For villains that are caught, maybe a temporary power nerf and being put to work at some of the most disgusting jobs onboard the ship? Locking people up, if everybody is needed for survival, doesn't seem practical. (This also opens up the chance for "you humiliated me and now I must have my revenge" threads, though, so maybe this isn't practical either.)

Overall, however, I'd say - just the fact that it's a contained living area might be enough to make some villains at least take stock of their situation and plan out their villainy carefully? They do need everybody for survival, and if they're caught acting up, having something in place that suppresses particularly their own powers (if they're from a canon where that's a thing) will at least make them less of a danger to the community. If you had a guard system, more military-minded characters could also be asked to look after troublemakers, but that might be getting into a bit too much organization.

I'm rambling, so hopefully at least some of that made sense/is helpful. Really looking forward to this game, so thanks to everybody for working on it! You guys all seem awesome so far.
