someone who doesn't play the protag as a, well, protag?

you actually chose the sidekick part for him?

WHAT IS THIS MAGIC

Playing a protag as a protag is fun and all (I have tons of it with Hilbert!) but I really really really liked sidekick Lucas and how his team is set up within the three battles you have beside him (each having one of the basic evolutionary methods as their own, like Level Up for starter Trade for Kadabra and Stone for Clefairy and all) due to the fact he's Professor Rowan's assistant and the professor is researching evolution!

But yeah I just really found him to be incredibly sweet and helpful and knowledgeable and kind of awkward in his interactions with girltag and stuff I just really fell hard for sidekick!Lucas vs. protag!Lucas. I'm kind of sad there's not more people who take from the "sidekick" kind of part for other protags!

I've toyed with the idea of the sidekick!versions of the B/W protags, but unlike the other generations' alt-protag sidekicks, they really just only show up in the subway to serve as a battling partner, with practically no canon whatsoever...

...then again looking at the rest of everyone who's replied to this roll call and taking into account that the subway boss twins have pretty much the same amount of canon, this could be a thing.

Considering that even as Subway partners they could be from the separate universe that Black and White knowingly have going on (the Entralink specifically states so, that pair between the "future" Opelucid City and "past" Opelucid City implies that sort of relationship, the existence and widespread knowledge of Black City and White Forest, the fact your partner don't seem to recognize you as The Hero or Champion when, as the protag, you're more or less known as a legend) and be heroes in their own regard there, you could! I think it might be a tad hard to take just from the Subway part, but it's certainly doable. Yeah, just look at the subway bros for instance. It's just that your battle partner only talks to you a few times and all. But you can pretty much gather that they love to battle, are very friendly, etc from that sort of thing.

...Not to trivialize everything you said or anything, but I kinda sorta keyed in on one thing: everyone in the Unova region being dimension hoppers is the best fridge logic ever. And also broaches more questions like "is there only one of a given person in both universes at a given time probably not oh my god what if a person runs into themselves."

Err, um, I mean, yes, good points! You have an excellent point with the whole Black City and White Forest thing and the whole non-recognition thing. Yes. Ahem.

I know right when I realized it I was sort of freaked out. BW is like the perfect generation for doubles and explains why you have the same trainers through your journey what if it was something like that, since the past two generations that have had plot have had the other protag delegated to sidekick so they wouldn't experience those battles anyway. Going to a different dimension could be like a vacation for people.

I mean oh yes thank you. I have a life outside of Pokémon, I swear.

Could you imagine the travel brochures Unova would print for tourists? You'd have all the normal typical sightseeing stuff blah blah Skyarrow Bridge blah blah Casteliacones blah Nimbasa Amusement Park blah blah blah Undella Town, and then you get things like "Exciting, High-Speed Battles! Challenge the Battle Subway!" because battles. On a train. "Tired of the hustle and bustle of modern city life? Enjoy the relaxing natural scenery of White Forest, where rare Pokemon frolic freely in the grass-- without ever leaving the area!" "Want to be someone else for a day? Visit the Entralink today!" "Come to Opelucid City, where all the newest innovations in technology are happening!" while on the opposite page, there's "Come visit Opelucid City, a homage to Unova's roots and history."

...I should never be a travel agent. Ever. And I do have other hobbies that don't include overthinking Pokemon. Really.

That sounds awesome! Unova is definitely the place to visit, with this sort of catchphrase:

"See a world split by time!"

It's like Tales of Symphonia, except they're not sucking off each other. I'm pretty sure.

I was thinking more "ridiculous" and "over-the-top," but sure, "awesome" makes it sound so much more flattering.

...Well I don't think they're sucking off each other, Unova's lore has that whole balance thing going on... fights always seem to come to stalemates or get mediated by some third party...

Yeah, that's true. I've always thought that N takes the winning dragon - like Zekrom in Black, he has that, and everything in Opelucid City is looking to the future with big dreams, while the past has Reshiram's reality and traditions... So yeah.

Roller coasters in Gyms? Walking forward into a gaping chasm trusting only the wind to keep you alive? Getting shot out of cannons with no prior training? Who came up with half this stuff and where do we sign up.

Soooo, he wants an epic battle between heroes yet still wants to stack the odds in his favor. Haha. We're onto you, N. I don't mind though; he did leave us with Reshiram and all, since I have Black.

I always thought of White as a more cynical game because of the fact that if he has Zekrom, he's just dreaming ambitiously and trying to make his perceived ideal a reality while we defend the truth. If he has Reshiram, though, then we're the hopeless dreamers instead and he's the one preaching the ugly truth no one wants to believe. Course, in either case, it isn't as if ideals are portrayed as impossible to realise, but still.

There's not one safety regulation and that's the way they like it.

He left me with Zekrom, since I played through White. I like the big guy! Reshiram scares me. It kind of goes into that balance factor, you know? He should've thought about taking the losing dragon instead.

Oh no, that's so awful! In a good way, I mean, that's really good thinking! In Black, his ideal world is one where Pokémon and humans are split, where the truth is that they're best together; in White, the truth is that all humans do is hurt and use Pokémon without their input and our ideal world has them working together. So it's pretty bad both ways: We crush a dream or we cover up the truth. Just like the America it's based on. You're a nice anon to talk to.

Just think of the lawsuits. ...then again Pokeverse.

I like em both, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't biased toward Reshiram. And yeah, that the game makes a point of keeping balance even while we're discussing/arguing issues framed in black and white (N mentioning that he hates greys, if not specifically in this context) is pretty neat. Hurrah for Tao Trio.

Pokéverse has a whole set of laws all its own... As long as no one dies from it, they're fine.

It's one of my favorite gens for that reason! Posing a difficult argument like that to seasoned players, who have no doubts in their minds about the love they have for the teams who brought them through so many challenges, and making them think about the implications of simply catching any Pokémon that catches our eye, I think it's a really fascinating thing. Though, I have a tendency to put too much thought into things...

Oh no I love really awfully good nagging thoughts like that!! I have those sort of thoughts when I'm about to go to bed and then I want to tell someone really badly! I figured you would be one, but since I don't know but a few people on this list oocly I can't even begin to pinpoint who you are!

Dooooon't worry, I have a tendency to do the same. And subsequently tl;dr about it. I thoroughly enjoyed Gen V when I played through it at release, but didn't actually look as deeply into things as I am now. It's making for quite an interesting rediscovery of the region! Generation. ...Region.

It's those sorts of thoughts that make me really glad I know someone who's always up as late as I am and willingly suffers through all the sleep-deprived rambling I bounce at them. Aah, you wouldn't have known me anyway- I keep to myself mostly and this is actually my first time poking my head into the Pokemon fandom... Actually, hang on-
