Would playing a warlord from Pokemon Conquest without having played any Sengoku Musou/Samurai Warriors games be doable or a lost cause?

I think it would be doable, fellow anon! I play a character from Pokemon Conquest without playing the Samurai Warriors games.

I'd say so? I haven't played any of those games, though, so my opinion probs isn't worth much, but it was my understanding that conquest was a different continuity than the other dead SW/etc. games.

While the anon above is right and the games are very much separate continuities, I personally found that watching some Samurai Warriors videos/LPs on Youtube and just generally doing some research helped me develop a better grasp on my pokemurai of choice. The core of their personalities remains the same, and though they're pretty clear just from playing Pokemon Conquest alone, they are better fleshed out in their original canon.

That said, yes, it's totally possible to pick up a warlord without previous knowledge of SW! And if you're going with that, then I definitely advise you to read the official Pokemon Conquest webcomic, too. Everyone makes at least a cameo, while other characters play bigger roles, so depending on who you're planning to pick up, it might be helpful! Ah! I've seen the NicoNico webcomics but haven't seen any translations at all. Very helpful, I must say. I will definitely keep all of your advice in mind; thank you!

I'm entertaining picking up Hanbei and/or Masamune, though I haven't reached their respective storylines yet so I'll probably hold out until I do one or the other's. (I haven't picked up the game in a while and left off in the middle of Hideyoshi's story, so I at least have incentive to play further!)
