[D] How you like me now?

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Concerns?

Hey! Do not post anything outside of these threads. It will be deleted.
Go be cute and fun and fun and funny over here.

Anons, how might you justify Connor's personality in cut-scenes vs his personality in gameplay?

IE: Things like being outspokenly against needless killing (shouting at Haytham every time he kills lackeys/informants, etc), but as soon as the cutscenes end he's back to slicing every throat that gets close enough to his blade, being willing to and even suggesting that he should kill random mercs just for their uniforms and so on and so forth. I just finished my first playthrough, so maybe it'll make more sense to me on the second, but idk.

i guess maybe think of it as him killing those guys in self-defense. in the cut scenes the people he gets mad at Haytham for killing aren't attacking them at all and they're actually being fairly compliant, but in the gameplay the guards will attack you just for walking near them. obviously this isn't always the case, but obviously the game was not designed for roleplayers/fic writes/etc. who would need to figure this stuff out about his personality or they probably would have included a lot less killing so that his personality would be a little more consistent in this regard. no matter what i'd say regard every kill as something Connor did because he say no other way to accomplish his goals. whether the reason is apparent or not, just assume that he wouldn't have done it if there was a way around it. that's my opinion, anyway.

does this make any sense at all? it's 6 am and i'm running on very little sleep atm so this might all just be incoherent rambling.

Also, remember that Connor has the option to do non-lethal takedowns, so he may not kill as often during gameplay.

He kills out of necessity only. One thing which is important to note is that he's still very respectful to the people he's just brutally murdered. He disapproves of people mistreating their corpses--"he's still a man"--and respects the dying wishes of a Templar to let him go down with his ship, despite Faulkner's protests.

The point of the gameplay is stealth and moving around unseen while blended. You're not "supposed to" be killing everyone, you're supposed to move around undetected. Not everyone bothers with that all the time, obviously, but just because you can murder everyone in sight doesn't mean you're supposed to: I mean, you could kill civilians constantly, too, if you wanted, it doesn't mean Connor did. Be careful about associating what you/Desmond does in the Animus with what Connor did in history, and all.

Anyway, I suggest you pick up the book (AC: Forsaken) when it comes out for some perspective. I have used the books for making judgement calls for Ezio when it comes to reality vs gameplay mechanics and it works pretty well.

The Forsaken novel is about Haytham rather than Connor. Great for anyone wanting to pick him up though as there's a lot of backstory there.
