[M] It's about time

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Is there a nice way to advise someone to drop a game? This person has been whining on plurk about how they don't fit into the game, don't like the premise or the plot, don't like certain members of their cast, etc. They were recently critted on their lack of activity by some anons and had a meltdown on plurk about it. When offered suggestions on how to integrate into the game, they brush them aside in order to complain further and it's making multiple people really uncomfortable to witness. They've been in game all of two months and have been on extended hiatus three times already. I barely know them so I'm not sure how to approach them about this in a way that doesn't come across at completely douchey. Any advice would be welcome. At this point, I'll probably end up talking to them about it with my name attached, but I would appreciate advice on what to say.

They've apped into three games in the past week already, but they're determined to stay in this one too.

How thin-skinned are they? If they're one of those thin-skinned people who throws a fit at the sign of any crit, there's probably nothing you can say that won't upset them.

But if they're not ridiculously oversensitive like that, then I'd just say something to the effect of, "Look, I'm not saying this because I don't think you're a good RPer or because I don't like you, I'm saying it because I've noticed how unhappy you've been and I don't like seeing you unhappy. It seems like the game isn't really what you want out of a game and I honestly think you'd be happier somewhere else." only you know, in your own words. And maybe suggest games you think would work out better for them?

Granted, I can be kind of awkward so this might be terrible advice, but it's what I would say.

look, realistically, people like that are just determined to be miserable. if they get crit they're under attack, if they get advice they blow it off, if they get buttpats they're asdfkjdhgdslfjssasf n-not good enough and just don't d-d-deserve you guys uguu asdf /)/////(\;;, and if they get nothing it's because everyone hates them.

you can never fix them because they don't want to be fixed, they want to roll in it and be told they're amazing just the way they are and they don't know they're beautiful. if you really want to do this we obviously can't stop you, but be ready for the inevitable "L M F A O SOMEONE JUST TOLD ME TO DROP?????????? (unsure)" plurk. if they're a secret pa bitch you'll probably get namedropped on wankgate to boot.

of course, there's always a chance they'll realize you're right and drop without a fuss and there will be much rejoicing, but after reading everything you just shared about them, i wouldn't bet on it.

+1

I knew someone who was exactly like this, and they basically just enjoyed playing the "unloved outsider everyone is so unfair and mean to me" role. This person had literally no reason to stay in the game. They claimed to hate the plots, the mods, the characters, and the RP partners they played with had dropped long ago, but they continued to stay and did nothing but whine and complain.

There really is no easy way to tell someone they should drop, but you can try telling them that you think they are really unhappy, you have their best interests in mind, and you think they would be happier if they left the game. Be really polite and don't accuse them of anything. But like above anon, I really don't think they're going to take it well because they sound like they are determined to be the persecuted victim.

Don't tell her to trop, ask her why she's still there if she doesn't like it.
