Saw something similar in wankgate, but decided to give it a positive spin for here. What character did you previously really dislike was played well enough for you to like them, or alternatively look into their canon to learn more?

you know it's really sad but i've never seen an rped character that inspired me to look in to the canon

That sucks. :( I've seen it happen before, where characters have actually convinced players to look into it. Hell someone actually told me that once and it made my freaking day.

Ah, this happens a lot though I generally don't dislike a character I don't know, much less there are very few character I actively dislike, that I can think of.

I really love it when someone does get me interested in a canon I'm not familiar with, and I also do take it as a huge compliment if I can accomplish the same. :')

i live under a rock, so i got into the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya via a kyon, tengen toppa gurren lagann via a kamina, and dc comics via various characters

Mostly just obscure/overlooked characters. Like the Ma-Ti of a five-man crimefighting team or something. Or Homestuck OCs. I hate Homestuck but every once in a while I see an OC who's actually halfway decent and even interesting.

i cannot fucking stand alisha from misfits in canon. she's either mean and petty as hell or the blank reward of simon's amazing rise from the bowls of social nothingness

but i have to say i've played a few misfits characters and everyone i've seen play her has done her character the great service of making her, you know, likable.

i think they skipped out on a lot of opportunities to delve into alisha and her development in canon. it sucked sfm. then again they've done that with almost everyone.

but ita with rpers. there are some very good alisha rpers out there.

Rinoa from FF8. I couldn't stand her in the game but Time and Tides had a really great Rinoa back in the day when I was part of the game and it made me realize that the only reason she's so obnoxious in canon is because she's basically a fish out of water--a perfectly normal teenage girl among a group of mercenaries. Take her out of that setting and put her somewhere low-pressure and her personality really shines.

My game's first MCU Loki in our carousel of Lokis made me like really him while he was there.
