I actually fucking hated Shadow until that player showed up. I still don't care for the canon version, but that RP version has actually made me like the character. A lot.

His most recent canon appearance was SIX YEARS AGO in 2006, in which he was easily the only thing handled well in the entire game. Unless you're mad at him in BK, which handled pretty much all the AU characters extremely well, or Dark Brotherhood, which was a shitpile of writing and had nothing to do with Sega anyway, where are you coming from? If you played any of SA2, SB, or even fucking '06 you'd know better.

However, I make no apologies for my stance on SEGA's writing standards, nor do I apologize for disliking a character (to which I am wholly entitled), and angrily accusing me of "WANTING TO BE COOL ON THE INTERNET!111" for no apparent reason other than to attack me for making you feel defensive, followed by a grocery list of baseless assumptions about what I have and haven't played doesn't make me want to reconsider my opinion. It makes me wonder why I continue to put up with anyone in this fandom.

Woah, please stop. There's really no reason for this! People are allowed to dislike a character, and I can see where they're coming from, even as a huge fan of Shadow!

The series does have its flaws, and the writing isn't great, but there's no reason to get up in arms like this. Come on, let's not fight anymore, okay?

i think i can see where other anon is coming from though, because SEGA's writing is pretty awful. i think some of the things they ended up doing with the character also lead to the dislike.

heroes was bad and shadow was like a b movie yes but unleashed had writing as good as the adventure games and so did generations

I agree that Unleashed had good writing, and so did Generations, but the writing is still really corny. Only us Sonic fans could call that good writing.

And I loved Heroes, but mostly because for me, hearing Shadow say "USE YOUR SUPER POWERS" made the game for me.

It depends on what you're asking for in "good writing" I think. If you're looking for another overdramatic wangst fest like the Adventure games or 2006 (I'm sorry but Shadow has nothing on either of the Adventure games in terms of drama or any of it if you compare the actual content) then no you might not think they were written well. If you're looking for a story written about Sonic the Hedgehog, with Sonic and the other characters all written well, even the new ones, and without the story getting too dramatic, angsty, or ridiculous, and remembering Sonic is SUPPOSED to be corny and always wass (come on, rodent chasing fat man in a robot saving animals?) until the comics/cartoon came along then you're fine.

But opinions and all.

I like the Adventure games and 06, as well as the newer games, so for me, personally, I think the writing's okay. I just know for outsiders looking in, it's nothing to be chasing after.
