Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.
Do not solicit money, Dreamwidth points, or other currency unless you are offering a good or service in return.

in my experience, what makes it difficult is bad faith being attributed to other players' behavior right off the bat.

That person's vibe is weird? They must be a sex pest and I'm going to get them banned from every game out there. That person's responses appear hostile? They must be a bully who hates me and I'm going to get them banned from every game out there. The mods don't listen to my specific feedback? They don't give a shit about their playerbase and are only running this game so they have somewhere to play their own characters. Or the flipside of that: this player gives us, the mods, extremely harsh feedback? They're trying to mold our game into something it's not and disrespecting the mod team.

Can we all just remember that most of us are neurodivergent, and even if we weren't, mismatches in communication style are bound to happen even with the most socially skilled people? Let's not immediately assume the other person is an asshole who deserves to be gossiped about and chased out of this hobby. Sometimes the vibe is just weird because the person is awkward/enthusiastic, and sometimes someone appears hostile because something's going on in real life that we don't know about.

it is so interesting that you started with the sex pests

Ignore the above anon. This is one of the most sensible responses in this thread

Also sometimes people just don't click or get along and that's okay. You not being best friends forever with Susie doesn't meant she needs to be banned from everywhere because you guys dislike one another. It's possible to just avoid one person in a game. I promise, I've done it.

This! There are people I have acknowledged (in my head or to friends) I don't like *personally* or don't like how they play their character, but are not bad people. I just stay in my lane.

Yeah I definitely don't vibe with everyone and even really dislike a few people, but they're not terrible just because I don't like them, we just don't click. It's just impossible for everyone to like everyone! I don't get where people get the energy to try to run someone out of the hobby for not getting along with them in a minor and everyday way three years ago or whatever. The most I do is complain to my best friend in private and then I get over it? It's not hard lol

This. And if you have beef with someone? Shut up about it.

Re: What would make modding better?

that's definitely true for everyone else, but you need to understand the person i am talking about is an exception and deserves to be run out of rp.

i can't prove it and my deets are a decade old, but anoncomms let me throw smoke and make people sure there's fire, so they serve a vital role in rp by making certain the person who REALLY deserves it gets shunned.

yeah i don't appreciate the real problems people have had with certain widely banned parties being minimized to "weird vibes"

oh shut the fuck up, if the person we're talking about can't be mentioned on rpanons it's because nobody's actually defending them

which means whoever you have a bug up your ass about isn't as bad as them and you know it

Re: What would make modding better?

(Anonymous) 2025-12-03 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
people seem to try to point to actual agreed upon problem players in dw (as in people who have been widely banned even in meme comms and so forth) to try to paint people they had minor or nothing issues with the same brush, which has always been weird to me. there are people who maybe have one argument and say something stupid and then move on to do nothing interesting for the rest of time and yet still years later get brought up by the other side as the devil. this goes for players who have a fight or mods who make one unpopular decision that nevertheless isn't the end of the world like an unpopular event or whatever.

i've watched it play out multiple times before and i always wish people would try taking a break before dragging up shit that isn't really that bad and happened years ago with no repeats.

this conversation is like arguing about 2016 ghostbusters where you mention that there was a lot of ott virulent misogyny before the movie even came out and then fifty guys pile on to say STOP SAYING EVERYONE WHO DIDN'T LIKE THE MOVIE HATES WOMEN

+300 dwrp wouldn't be a cesspool of nasty gossips and people afraid to do anything lest they be judged for breathing the wrong way if people stopped assuming bad faith everywhere

Re: What would make modding better?

(Anonymous) 2025-12-02 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
see, the problem with that is that for a long time, i DID assume good faith. and it came back to bite me again and again because it turned out that those things i was concerned might be red flags really were red flags.

so now i just assume bad faith by default because it's better that than letting myself get shit on again.

Re: What would make modding better?

(Anonymous) 2025-12-02 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
anon, you'd probably benefit from reading the responses about taking a step back from rp, getting a sense of proportion, and finding other hobbies because assuming the worst of people because you don't want to get shit on again!!!! isn't a good cope either

Re: What would make modding better?

(Anonymous) 2025-12-02 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
da but just deciding to protect yourself in future isn't a big deal, it's normal to be wary when you've been hurt. and not everyone has the energy to put themselves out there all the time. ayrt might just be staying in their lane, you don't need to freak out at them about how they're too fragile to rp

Re: What would make modding better?

(Anonymous) 2025-12-03 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
i'm not sure why you think i don't have other hobbies. i do. and interestingly enough, when i assume good faith in those hobbies it's fine 99% of the time. it's only dwrp where it's a problem, and that's why i've taken to just assuming the worst here specifically.

are you seriously annoyed/upset/whatever your emotion is that an anon didn't read your response in good faith and assumed the worst of you?

seriously? you are justifying this behavior in the first place, why are you upset when it's applied to you?
