I'm playing a character who, in canon, has some "cute" moments. It's not quite a defining attribute for her (the way it can be for some characters) but it is part of who she is.

The only thing is, I feel like I'm bad at writing cuteness! How do you make a character cute/endearing? What are some things I could do?

Without going too far in the other direction and reducing her to nothing but Cute Girl or giving anyone diabetes, of course.

"Cute" is sort of broad, so it really depends on your character's other defining traits, I'd say. Like, is she more outgoing or is she the shy/awkward cute type? Does she have cute clumsy moments? Is she cute because she's always optimistic and cheerful or is she more the sort that struggles with insecurity and brings out protective instincts?

I guess what I really mean is, it might be good to go through her canon and look at the specific moments that make her seem cute, either to yourself or to the characters around her. Then from there you can consider how to mimic those cute moments in a game.

just play the character as herself. if she's cute and endearing in her habits and mannerisms, then you're writing cute by being ic.

and just to add: there is never a need to point out something is or should be considered cute. this is the fastest way to make it not cute. don't to things to be cute, do things to be the character and you should be good.

You did say that it's not a defining characteristic. If you're playing her IC, those "cute" moments should come naturally. As an above anon said, don't do things for the purpose of being cute. I've seen it happen and forcing cuteness can get really annoying really fast. Just do what your character would do IC. If you need to, do a canon review.

Who is this opinion coming from in canon? Does EVERYONE in canon think she's cute or is it the opinion of a few characters characters? What does that character(s) think is cute about her? What do these "cute" moments have in common? It's not really a question of "How can I make this character cute?" as it is "WHY do other characters think she's cute?"
