[D] Not safe for work

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Concerns?

Navigate:

Hey! Do not post anything outside of these threads. It will be deleted.
Go be cute and fun and fun and funny over here.

One of the things that makes typing out accents in English particularly problematic/difficult/annoying, is that English is so utterly non-phonetic to start with. Typing what people actually hear requires changing more than just the accent, and it ends up looking bizarre.

Like the other anons said, don't overdo it. Mention the narration, and even link to a sample in your profile or journal if you find someone on youtube with a voice that matches what's in your head. Focus on turns of phrase, cadence/sentence structure, and slang for flavor. Remember that accents are not fonts - the same letter is not the exact same every time. Some words will be more accented, and her accent might increase or decrease depending on her emotions/surroundings. You don't have to make it perfectly uniform; if something looks unnatural on the page, just spell it normally.

Lastly, pick out a few relatively common words that have a distinctive sound in the accent you want, and write those with the accent, but don't worry about the majority of your words. If you do it right, people will pick up on the slang and the accented words and read the accent onto the rest of the dialogue without clunky overuse of phonetics. Dropped g's in American southern accents, 'ye' for scottish, that kind of thing. I'm sorry I don't have anything welsh-specific to offer.

Also, don't hesitate to play around with the level of accent you want to write! Go on DM or sws or somewhere low stakes and try making it a little thicker or thinner, and see what you like/what conveys her voice best/what gets the most positive response. Good luck!
