unfortunately there are some legitimate pedos/lolicons who hitched their wagon to proshipping, so do your due diligence if you meet someone proudly proclaiming that label

many of the out and proud proshippers i had the misfortune of interacting with acted like being a proshipper was a marginalized identity, not that a lot of people gave them the slip in fandom because, understandably, most people don't want to interact with shota/loli/csa, fictional or not. it was incredibly noxious to me as a racial and gender minority.

ultimately i don't care what people are into because i can't do shit about it. but i have the right to curate my space and consistently it was proshippers who tried to violate my boundaries regarding shota/loli/csa and, once refuted enough times, escalated to bigotry. i shouldn't have to tell people i'm a survivor to be left alone and often that was the wrong move anyways because they took it as a challenge

both sides are incredibly annoying but only one side took a malicious glee into trying to 'convert' me to their side. i just hit the bricks now whenever someone claims to be a proshipper

i’m sorry you had to deal with that, anon. tbh this is why i side eye proshippers because i personally don’t have a problem with lolicon/shotacon existing, but i have had run ins with those who drag it into public spaces and claim discrimination when told to cut that shit out.

unfortunately i have to say that the anti side isn’t better, as you have the weirdos who will share loli/shota art and claim that they're simply raising awareness or whatever. the worst is when some of them will post a actual photo of a baby and go “i bet you think this is sexy” which - holy shit, what the fuck is wrong with some people?????

both sides have those who are extremely online that desperately need to go outside and find a hobby

yeah both sides are utterly ridiculous but unfortunately due to trauma i have a visceral reaction towards one side more than the other. regardless i think it's a stupid thing to identify with either way and it's best i don't get involved with people who use it as a label for my own peace of mind

this shit permeating fandom as a whole has a lot to do with why i stopped posting fanart or writing fanfic. rp is now my only fannish hobby left

it's a squick for me but i also think it's disturbing to suggest that lolicon/underage animated stuff is in any way in the same category as actual csem involving actual children and feel weird that this way of thinking is moving into the real world with people getting prosecuted for it

otoh i find it deeply frustrating that it's hard to filter out underage stuff online esp with anime and imo a lot of proshippers don't seem to understand that the average person doesn't want to see that kind of thing at all even in passing. idgaf if she's technically 2000 yrs old

yeah one reason why i’m extremely unbothered by loli/shota is i’ve had several jobs of moderating social media spaces over the past fifteen years and unfortunately that meant i’ve seen actual csam/csem. i would still rather not have to see the former, but it’s ultimately usually just weirdos who are harmless and nothing gets escalated. i was left in tears the first time i had to deal with csam/csem at my first job, and i still remember at how unsettled and distraught i was for the rest of the day.

which is why it felt incredibly insulting when i would handle reports for child endangerment/csam, and most of the time it was shit like porn of the characters from boku no hero or whatever.

because a lot of sites don't have the option to report things for what they actually are. they themselves lump loli/shota with child endangerment/csam by sticking everything into 'adult/sexual depictions of real/fictional children'

actually it goes under violating content/sexual or explicit imagery/pornography options, the same way that pokemon porn goes there and isn't considered animal abuse/beastiality. there has been multiple work meetings about this that i have sat through because someone tried to escalate pikachu having a erection to law enforcement.

ok, so don't report the fictional shit, then. unlike pictures of living, breathing human children, it doesn't hurt anyone if someone draws, idk, snape boning hermione. just click away and save the report button for the shit that actually destroys lives, that a good compromise?

i’m talking about a website’s internal reporting tools, like twitter or tumblr

not sending it to law enforcement which is usually a separate process in another website ran by said law enforcement

ok as someone does handle those sort of reports: if you use the internal reporting tools to report csam, on all social media sites it goes in a queue for reports that get escalated to law enforcement. it’s why it can take a while to handle actual csam because these queues are backlogged with so much false reports because they have to be reviewed manually and either be kicked to another queue or escalated to law enforcement.
