Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for fictional character role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. like people said in this thread, it's like any other fad. troll dolls, rae dunn, etc. it's popular because celebs got into it and there's artificial scarcity because they refuse to sell them in a way that isn't easy for bots to get first. the blind box appeal is minor gambling in that if you want the color you want, you have to usually work for it which then makes the demand go higher.

the keychain ones are most popular compared to the other things in the monsters line (vinyl figures, etc) because it's primarily women (with some exceptions) displaying them on their bags/purses. putting aside the consumerism, it's okay to dislike it (for that or other reasons) but it's also pretty shitty for the really vocal haters to insult the collectors because it does boil down to misogyny ("real women don't like dolls/why are you collecting stupid dolls/leave those for children") and attacking women for hobbies and people in general for just having something they like.
