Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for fictional character role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Do not solicit money, Dreamwidth points, or other currency unless you are offering a good or service in return.
Discussion of or soliciting RP for celebrities or other non-fictionalized versions of real people is not allowed.

TBH, if you don't like alcohol, don't bother. It's expensive and an acquired taste. If you don't need the stress relief that alcohol gives you/don't like getting tipsy or drunk, or you prefer the high of other sources (weed for instance), do that.

Wine is a thing because depending on the type of wine, it can pair nicely with fatty foods to clear your palate so your mouth doesn't get all gummy.

Beer and ale have a whole microbrew culture but I've never seen the appeal of them because it takes too many to get drunk and I don't enjoy the flavor. If you don't enjoy the flavor or the relative side effects, you may as well just drink something else.

Hard liquors can be hidden easier in mixed drinks but they are expensive and will make you sick very quickly. (If you must, a Long Island Iced Tea is very alcoholic and doesn't tend to taste like alcohol, better hidden than a vodka cranberry or a lemon drop.)

Alcohol is just one of the most socially acceptable drugs and some people take real joy in it, which is fine. Just like some stoners take real joy in knowing strains and the flavor elements in them, or like coffee people take joy in their different roasts and preparations. Not throwing shade, but if you don't enjoy it, it's an expensive thing to struggle to get accustomed to.

On the flipside if everyone else is ordering Drinks you can usually get something for free by telling the server you are the designated driver. (Assuming you are.) So that's nice.

eh not really, pretty much any liquor store and most grocery stores (if you live in a state where grocery stores can sell alcohol) will do free tastings at least once a week. it's a good way to learn what you might like without having to shell out any money for something only to discover that you don't actually like it after all.

op, i definitely recommend going this route if you're interested in learning more about alcohol or seeing if there's anything you do enjoy. that's how i learned that i like a good whiskey but i really don't want anything to do with gin unless it's in something like a gimlet or a negroni, and that i like mezcal much more than tequila. and the best part is that the people running the tastings aren't going to judge you if you're not a fan of something you try since everyone's tastes are different and what one person loves, someone else might not like at all.

That must be something local to you, or at least uncommon in my area, because I haven't ever heard of liquor stores doing free tastings. Breweries and distilleries do tastings of the products they make though.

it's a bougie thing common in bigger cities

there's also private groups that do it all the time

find them all the time in meetup and local city/community subreddits
