i used to rp with someone years ago who was like that and she was just... straight. she liked looking at cute/hot anime guys and that's it. there were some relationships where she could see the bl vibes but aside from that she didn't see it at all. i was like her window into bl because whenever i told her that "people ship x and y btw" she'd be genuinely surprised. 99% of all male characters were simply straight to her.

97% of males irl are afraid of being perceived as anything other than straight because being perceived as anything other than straight cis and white by the very male peers they cater to is seen as wrong.
