Sure, if there is something to keep it from getting stale within a couple months because writing about surviving and fighting zombies is only entertaining for so long before you're doing the same thing repeatedly forever.

when this happens ask them to write the top level for once. if they're serious about rping they will, if not you lose nothing

the burnout is exactly why i stopped watching the walking dead. when it first came out, i loved it. i was super into it. then after the season with neegan, it just became less about zombies and surviving and more about surviving other shitty people trying to survive. too much. i got burned out. and now there's just this neverending zombie trend and it's too much. after a few months in a game, it feels like it'd get to be too much. apocalyptic games in general feel too much. it's like living constantly on an edge and the real world is too full of tension and crap as it is atm. it's why i auto veto any horror anything anymore. i'm too tired and everyone around me is dying. let me rp happy.

why are there no happy games anymore?

because the current state of the world + happy games devolve into slice of life too easily. you need conflict to shake things up and drive character growth. conflict doesn't have to be high stakes, life or death every time, but it's a hard balance in a collaborative setting

I don't really have much trouble getting play from other people. Thing is the flake and I both play the same character. I love playing him but would also like to write against him and the flake is one of the few people who plays him and is also willing to write gross ships with him besides me. I guess I could always write fic lmao

there aren't a lot of good sol games either. but you can have conflict without it being horror or war. eg; you get separated into factions and the winner at the end of (set time for season) gets boosts for the next season. think hogwarts or school faction houses but without the murder. (or hogwarts). asgard wasn't too far off for having it be split into groups that drove towards things without it being constant burnout of negative. you can have camp games, scavenger hunts, etc. things that are low risk in terms of world ending stuff.

i miss those games.

yeah that's why i said conflict doesn't have to be high stakes, life or death. my favorite form of conflict is interpersonal issues: clash of morals, misunderstandings, different needs, etc

vampires coming into a game and people trying to get them to stop drinking blood, period, and forcing them to drink coconut water in an attempt to make them 'vegan' and the resulting bloodbath that follows.

are we burnt out on space opera

i feel like there hasn't been a space game in a while but i don't exactly have my thumb on the beating pulse of dwrp

one of my favorite conflicts i ever rped was my french character versus an english one. they hated each other because they were both from a time period where that rivalry mattered. after an uphill battle they made out sloppy style and became boyfriends. funniest shit ever

the only space game i can think of is the memory loss one, which sucks because yay to space but nay to memory loss

this is the relationship of the two enemies turned lovers in the old guard.

It's this for me. Slice of life and "happy" gets as stale for me as an endlessly bleak zombie apocalypse. There is nothing for me to do there because my characters won't do anything or be challenged.

Horror and extreme situations are an easy vehicle for cr over a long period of time and makes the SOL moments more impactful for me.

whether it's endless bleakness or happiness, humans are creatures of habit. stick them long enough somewhere and they will get used to it. characters need impetus. you can't have that without contrast

+1, it's just plain boring to me, i need situations that will challenge my characters and make them grow. sol is fine but not when that's all there is to do.
