maybe bullying isn't the right word because the victim isn't really aware of it, I think... they trash talk this one player a lot and always link their threads and nitpick them, even though I personally see nothing wrong with them. and it gets really personal at times? I noticed that some of them tag this player sometimes but they always turn the interactions really hostile with their characters insulting the character of this person they are shit talking. sometimes they say what they said in the group chat in the tags too. like one person says "god, what a dumb bitch" in the chat and then their character will also go "God, Character-san, you're such a dumb bitch." and then they laugh in the group chat because the other character is confused and hurt and it's funny to them that the player doesn't realize it's not just negative cr but they're being insulted without noticing.

when i was still in a game with my ex years ago, they would do this exact same shit, and eventually I ditched them all because they started actually trying to lie about that person to the mods and tried to get her kicked out of game because she wasn't the [character] player they wanted in game.

I learned later that when my back was turned, they'd say awful shit about me and my characters, too.

Get out of that group, anon. If you're brave enough, stand up to them and tell them what they're doing is wrong, but know that it might put a target on your back too. Take screenshots of what they say and keep as much evidence as you can.

Either way, it isn't worth it to stay friends with them anon, because when you stop being satisfactory to their tastes, they will turn on you.

Keep screencaps of EVERYTHING.

People will despise you for this, but only because they were held accountable for their own behavior. Do it for yourself, but also do it for the people who will one day be in your shoes.

save hard proof even if you're only showing the player they're all bullying. but honestly every last one of them deserves to be namedropped so the rest of us can avoid them too. they should reap what they sow.

jesus christ. i get that this puts you in a difficult position, anon, but the hardest thing to do is also the right thing in these situations. step away and find some way to inform the person about what's happening. do it anonymously if you need to.

This is sad to read. Echoing what others said: grab screenshots and distance yourself (easy to do, just become "too busy to respond as often"). Or literally be the adult and tell them directly "This is stupid. I'm out." Let them pick up the pieces.

Maybe even tag this person they're targeting so that they can enjoy some actually positive CR.

oof sounds exactly like rona and her cronies when they all played from the magnus archives and the locked tomb, right down to having a private group chat they shit talk their uninvited castmates in and the ic/ooc blurring. even if this isn't them, you're better off cutting ties now with these losers. and i agree with the anons saying you should inform their victim so they can stop wasting their time on these bullies too.

as one of their former uninvited, it very much does and it's concerning that they're still doing it. if the game is etraya or singillatim, those are where that group hang out now. a pity for some good games.

who do they play in those games?

they're now all into something called "worm," whatever that is, except rona herself isn't there anymore. since she wasn't actually the worst of the group but just the loudest i'm not sure that makes a difference. rona always just seemed like she wanted to be the star of the plot to me and not actually be deliberately mean, but the group that sprang up around her were very much bullies. those who were castmates but not bullies were relegated to the second, less cool discord group and then the meanness was all in a second inner circle.

the actual worst mean girls also play from iwtv, but the canon they moved on to en masse is this worm one, which maybe is little known enough they can just always be right and not have to deal with others disagreeing with their views.

both of those games look so solid that hopefully these players' tendencies are not ruining anybody's fun now, and maybe they have matured and stopped! haven't interacted with them since dropping deer country, so i cannot say they are still this bad. but two years ago this behavior was them to a t except with more "anyone who disagrees with my opinion is bad and i will be extremely two faced about this" and not judging anyone's actual writing so much. ymmv, because time has passed and i'll hope this group of primarily gen z-ers have grown up, since the actual rp was often enjoyable.

this is 100% bullying and ftr, i would make a move sooner than later to report them to the mods with caps, because if someone else in that chat does so first, you'll definitely be considered complicit even if you never personally said anything bad. i've seen that exact scenario play out two or three times in his hobby by now, and even saw almost an entire cast get banned from a game because of how they consistently spoke about another player in a cast chat, and even the players whose only crime was technically just being in the same chat received strikes for not reporting the bullying sooner.

don't be a bystander to toxicity. refusing to act makes you complicit in their bullying. and really, do you want to be friends with people like this?
