info posts make me feel self conscious, so i tend to leave them out. sometimes i don't even do permissions, because i'm a naughty naughty little anon who needs to be punished :(

you don't have to put every single thing about your character/self on an info post, anon! Just a quick little blurb would do. specifically, what would you want my character to know about yours if I tagged you with assumed cr involved?

really the big things you need are:

- age/height/weight/physical description (or a picture if you have one), stuff another character would notice right off the bat if they saw them face-to-face. i have one character who has a prosthetic limb that doesn't show up in icons but that anyone meeting them would notice right away, so i have a full-body image of the character in my info post for them to show the prosthetic. i have another character who doesn't look it but who is very tall, so having their height listed helps other players know that my character will probably be towering over theirs.
- a basic personality blurb to give people an idea of what your character is like, especially if it's not what you would expect from just looking at them (i.e. looks big and intimidating, is actually a giant teddy bear with one braincell who likes feeding stray cats).
- basic info about their world/their role in it to allow people to judge whether their character has anything in common with yours.

remember that the point of an info post is to give other canonblind people a cliff notes overview of your character! it doesn't need to be in-depth, it just needs to sum up the major points.

if you are intimidated by the idea of writing something in depth about the character: don't do that. I don't want to read a 50 page essay just to tag them, I just want to know what my character should be experiencing/assuming about them

In fact, I'd suggest even if you are the sort of person to write an in-depth biography, start it with a cliffnotes version. The top of an info post should be an elevator pitch. I'm not going to read a 5,000 essay that explains who their parents are until I'm already invested in the CR, but a quick outline that works as a springboard will work to get the CR rolling.

Da, this is actually really helpful advice - I have most of that information in my journals, but I used wiki links instead of a blurb of what the world is like/what I'm looking for, etc. I get occasional tags (I get more no-response than response tags, but I am persistent...and i'm greedy and wish for more), but since I don't have any significant CR I don't usually tag ship memes unless it's with a castmate (exceptions excluded), and I'm more interested in building gen cr right now anyway and jump into a ship meme if I vibe with the person. But with this advice I think I'll go over my journals again and pretty them up with more info for RPer bait. And should tag out to those enable me/roll call memes. Trying to break out of the 'is it okay if I tag this person' habit and just go for it! Worst case scenario, they don't respond right?

(agreeing) not to sound like, platitude-oriented or whatever, but i've literally been trying to break myself out of it by actively tagging even when my brain is like 'oh yeah they're def not gonna respond to this' and like. telling myself whole on that it doesn't actually affect whether i'm good or not if they don't respond. Sometimes it's not about me!! Maybe that person just isn't feeling the meme anymore. I don't let myself look to see if they're threading with others instead, either, cos it ain't my business.

And to be honest, the more i do it, the less it matters to me if a thread gets dropped or I don't get a tag back.

i hope you manage to get over that hurdle! i know brainworms are bad, but i'm here to (hopefully) help you and maybe other anons help yourselves! off the top of my head what i look for:

- basic info: name, age & age range, height (cuz if it's an action thread it's nice to have more context)
- if my character was in your world, what would i know about them? mannerisms, usual haunts, rumors, kinda like "i know you from osmosis but this is the first time we physically meet". i don't mind writing starters and doing the majority of the legwork. if you put effort in helping me visualize it in your infopage, then it'll be easier/faster for me to come up with something on the go. throughout threads i go back and look at infopages to make sure.
- what sort of cr you're looking for. if a character looks/sounds interesting enough but the character i'm currently running around with isn't the right one for them, i would actually find another character that would suit them better.
- if it's a shipping meme, what your preferences are. i'm begging you. i rp from a range of mediums and age ranges... it's likely i could find someone, but i need something to work with!
- are you okay with cross-medium cr. i'm fine with it but not everyone is, and that's ok!

there are genuinely characters i'm visually interested in but other than their name and icons i don't know much else about them. if it takes me too much time to do research and i have to reach out to you to figure out more details, then it's already a dead start for me, and i'll find someone else with something to work with.

maybe other anons would have better ideas, but this is kind of what goes through my mind when i'm bakerstreet surfing! i hope it helps even a little bit!

honestly your list is pretty comprehensive to what I'm looking for on info pages, too! It's not like the checklist needs to meet ALL these, but any number of these questions being answered will help me be able to tag someone

biggest one is gonna be cross canon/cross medium for me. If you really dont like it, put that first! I hate the idea of writing a tag-in to a meme that someone is disappointed to receive.

if you dont have a canon height for the character, "bigger than most", "smaller than most", "a medium sized build"... phrases like that can work in place of numbers. If you happen to have a picture of them the way you want them to look in memes, that's a great way to cut down on how much you have to do for a description

a permissions post and a character wiki link takes 5 minutes

if there's anything worth being self conscious about it's having a blank journal with no info because of how much it annoys people who look at your journals hoping to find enough info to tag you
