Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.
Do not solicit money, Dreamwidth points, or other currency unless you are offering a good or service in return.

(Anonymous) 2024-10-22 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)-turn on your rule of thirds/golden rule setting on your crop tool. This should provide a guideline that divides your crop window into thirds.
https://photographylife.com/the-rule-of-thirds < apply this rule when cropping. However, in addition keep these bits in mind:
-icons that face the thread (i.e. facing > ) tend to have an effect of looking more engaged int he thread. This doesn't mean you only have to make icons that face that way, just that it's a good detail if you can grab it.
-KEEP ZOOMING OUT. You will be losing detail as you adjust. the strongest icons tend to focus on a character's expression, but icons that don't show their face can be used dramatically or for feeling of not letting the expression you're writing show on the character's face. But if you don't zoom out, you risk making a crop that just gets muddied when it's small.
Other things to enhance:
-Sharpen. Sometimes this will fix when things get blurry. Sometimes it will make it too crispy. good luck
-Brightness/contrast settings also help with muddiness. If the colors on your icon seem just too close together (you can check this by temporarily greyscaling the image and zooming out; can you still see all the details when you do this?) then you can slowly brighten the composition while upping the contrast until those colors are much easier to discern from each other.
-Filters. Sometimes filters and overlays can add a mood or otherwise enhance an icon. Create a new layer above your icon art and fill that layer with color, then try different modes such as Overlay and Saturation. Adjust the opacity of these layers until you find something that you like. This can be used to unify palettes if the icon seems to contain too many colors for the mood you're going for. Photoshop used to have pre-set filters that achieve this same thing, but I haven't used PS in ages so idk if that's still the case.
Sorry this isn't a link or a real tutorial but I hope it helps!
