I've played from TLOU since launch and never had a problem getting LA tags. In fact, it's always been easier than tagging with other "animated" characters, and most of my CR in games has been LA.

I'm sure some people have snubbed me, but not enough that I've noticed, and maybe some incoming new players will make it weird, but I truly don't think about it because every TLOU player I've ever personally talked to this about has meshed fine with LA players.

that's different tho because as a longtime animanga DN rper, the live actions are ~~total garbage fires~~ so radically different as to be not the same canon.

if that's the case i can see not wanting to mix the two, if the different canons are p much the same then why not

i read a book series, then watched the la version that came out about it. multiple times. and every time, the la version is different in some of the ways that matter and some that don't from the original content. examples:
southern vampire mysteries / true blood - the fairies are very different and the story goes way off from how the actual book wrote it. they skipped a lot of things and twisted others while focusing on things that didn't matter in the series. lafayette (one of my fave characters) dies in the book. but his portrayal in the series made him a fan favorite and he got written past where he should have left. jason should have been a werecat. they missed the whole werebat portion. etc.
bitten - the characters aren't really true to the content of the original series and again, the books write out a whole different plot line than what the show decides to follow.
all souls trilogy / a discovery of witches - the casting was iffy on some parts as they aged the vampires differently than they should have been aged (ysabeau should have looked as young or younger than matthew) not to mention the bloodrage and part of the storyline. it was one of the ones that stayed a bit closer, but part of what i've found that book to shows really show a chasm in is that the book is usually first person narrative or focused on one/two main chars. the shows want to bring in as many viewers as possible and they widen that scope so that we see what happens with gerbert in adow or jason in tb.

i like most of the la versions of book series i read, but i also think of them as different things, tbh. some of them are wildly more different than the source material and some try really hard to stay true to content, but it's rare that i'd feel comfortable playing mixed versions. got and asoiaf started to deviate too much for me to want to play show characters in later seasons with book versions. i can sort of see borrowing from books to flesh out what the shows didn't go into, but sometimes you have to pick one and play from it because it doesn't work blended.

a friend was helping me through a really rough time and introduced me to a mu** game she was playing on. played there for a year or two and some friends there got me to join lj in the early days of sages of chaos and its been about 20 years now of rp from lj to greatest to inksome and ij and now dw.

My RP partner wants to create AU scenarios for our ship. They just keep coming up with ideas that negates one of their major themes, which is one of the biggest appeals for me. I don't mind if it's not present in all of our psls but I'd like to play with those specific dynamics sometimes.

there's also the peculiar fact that in this "for kids" category people only ever include western animation, and they choose to ignore the fact most animanga we play from is also for kids

honestly i'd judge someone who only played from magical girl anime or shounen fight of the week stuff too.

I think the medium divide is dumb as anything, and I've never not played with anyone because of their character's medium. But this feels like a weird way to delineate what counts as for kids or not -- is the only criteria for an adult medium here "contains a bare boob or butt at some point"?

Because if that's the case, we could say that The West Wing is clearly aimed at a child audience, what with the lack of tiddies

oh no, sorry if the wording made it seem that way. witcher, deadpool, and kingsman are adult canons, no doubt! i was poking fun at people's logic about maturity, tones, and themes. deadpool isn't any more "mature" than the mcu imo. the movie has the same formula and the same quipping humor. deadpool is just allowed to curse and put sex on camera. and considering in rp we *don't* use the family-sanitization on our threads, and our tony starks are also allowed to curse and put sex "on camera". that's the point i was trying to make: when it comes to rp, the target audience behind the canon is a pointless fact that doesn't impact the actual content of the tags.

with these canons added to the list, actual adult canons still make like 5% of rp.

people who are only interested in cartoons can't magically have their brains activate for LA if they have no interest in it, just because the titles are the same. double for video games, because you actually have to invest effort into those canons to consume them.

DN was just an example. i didn't watch it because i'm not interested in consuming LA.

for video games you can go watch a million let's plays. it's a bad example. especially when anon is pointing out there's no real difference between game TLoU and LA TLoU--visually, stylistically, and tonally.

there's no point to defend anyone who says they "can't relate" between those two specific examples. that's the definition of hypocrisy and medium snobbery

choosing who you want to tag has nothing to do with this argument, we aren't talking about that.

we just want people to admit they choose who to tag based on icons and drop the excuses

when both mediums have the same fucking canon adapted extremely loyally and you only tag one version, it's clear that the content of the canon doesn't matter

when players of books and podcasts tell their experiences on how choosing a la vs a drawn character makes a difference on the tags they get, it's clear that medium doesn't matter either

OH, PALMITOS!!! you know i never thought about it before but i realize now i never saw gringos eating those. i'm so glad you found them, i fucking love them! i could eat an entire can just by myself. here is very common to eat them in with shrimp and... "thousand island dressing" says google? the pink sauce made from mayo and ketchup? yeah. or in salads in generals, honestly.

i never had them cooked though! or saw anyone cook them. now i want to try!
