How do you go about finding out if someone has lost interest in playing with you? I’m in a situation right now where a person who seemed excited to play with me has dropped all of our threads and shows no sign of picking them back up (it’s been over a month). They still have me added on Plurk, but we’re not close so it seems weird to ask them unprompted if they just want to call it quits, especially after they seemed so enthusiastic at the start. I get the feeling it’s because they don’t really like me OOC, or our writing styles just don’t mesh, if that narrows it down.

how important are the threads to you? if they're vital CR or something important and plot related then you can at least ask them to talk to you about how things got resolved before you give up for good.

sometimes these things happen though. it might be like you said that they're not into the threads, or it might be that they just didn't reply for so long now they feel awkward or ashamed about tagging you back so late. I would at least talk to them once about it to see how they feel but if they keep ignoring the threads then you can just let them go and find someone more enthusiastic to play with.

Oh, hell yes. Some points in canon either become unattractive to play with, or repeated a story beat that was already made. Particularly in big canons, this is especially common.

What would you say is your success rate for getting threads that last longer than say, 5-ish comments, with random people on bakerstreet?

I'll go first. I'd say maybe 10%, but it's a rough estimate since I don't remember how many people I've tried tagging.

Hey, anons!

Since this has been an increasingly-common issue lately, we'd like to reiterate the "Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist" rule. We currently have no intention of getting rid of threads like RP Woes and understand that non RP-related issues sometimes creep in or are needed for context, but please remember that there are much better places on the internet to vent about and get help with mental health or other personal issues.

how well does your game handle negative CR, ic and ooc? do you have negative cr? if so, is it ongoing or does it just flare and then you don't interact again? do you find it worth it?

I play a villain character that gets a lot of fandom hate for the fact that he's petty and hypocritical. I was expecting a lot of negative reaction when I apped him into my game.

But surprisingly he's doing great there. Sure the character is miserable and he has a ton of negative CR buildup already but OOC people have been flinging themselves at his threads nonstop and all the stupid arguments he gets into have been taken with some humor by the muns. It's actually a lot of fun and I'm happy I decided to app this jerk. Who knows, he may actually get some great learning experiences and character development along with these awkward and pissy encounters.

This is a project to track the changing size and speeds of DWRP games. Every month I check the profile pages of the network and logs comm of every publicly advertised game I know of to see how many comments are made to the community each month, and compared it to the taken character list. It's not perfect (it can't keep track of inbox threads, for example) but it is a look at some interesting averages.

New this month: Games that didn't end up opening when planned have their own tab now. I'll move them back over to the main chart if/when they get a new launch date.

Opinion: Re: closed/dead games. Should they move over to a new sheet in cycles (maybe twice a year?) or just get deleted? If they get moved over to a new sheet, do we keep the data or just keep the basic details?

A tip for prospective mods: if you're starting a new game, you should put information like projected/ideal start date in an accessible spot. It's handy for new players looking for games, and I've seen over the past few months that games that do this tend to get off the ground much faster.

A long time ago, ten years plus now, I got involved with a small Pern-expy game that I really enjoyed. The mods did great worldbuilding and were friendly and polite, the world lore was great, and everyone could get a dragon. It wasn't just the standard gold, bronze, brown, blue and green either, there were amethysts and opals and rubies and onyxes and silvers, and they all had different 'powers' based on their color. Even the smallest ones could take on the biggest and win with enough cleverness, and the golds didn't rule everything. It was a war game though, and players were pitted against each other for just this purpose! I guess that would make it closer to dragonlance than Pern, but it was a wonderful game even if it sounds dumb on paper.

I lost power due to a hurricane for a few weeks and when I came back the game was just gone.

I wonder what happened to it sometimes.

anyone have any experiences (good or bad) finding rp partners over discord? i get the feeling i've exhausted what few psl options i had for my stagnant canon on dreamwidth (for now), so i'm wondering about the quality and ease of finding others on there.

in my experience it was pretty easy so long as i wanted to play an oc in whatever setting was up and running. i've seen some fandom/psl type stuff but never anything i was interested in, and it's not the norm. i fell off pretty quickly because of the expectations to have personal relationships and lack of boundaries that are norm in the discord rp community, though some people don't mind it and enjoy the social aspect.
