Thus I lay in a puddle of thirst

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

ICON SHORTCUTS?

(Anonymous) 2020-08-03 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
So I have my base icon PSDs that I apply to my icons and tweak as needed. Lately, though, manually dragging the layer masks from my master file to the individual icons had been hell on my wrists.

Is there a way to automate the process of dragging the layers from one file to the other? I know I can use a custom action with the 'file > automate > batch' function, but that would require me to remake each PSD from scratch in order to record the custom action, so I'd like to avoid it if possible.

You can record and save actions in photoshop, which I think can be applied to multiple files but I'm not totally sure.

Once you have an action recorded, you just press play and it does the thing

It's not 100% reliable for things like dragging from other files (at least, I haven't tried it) but if you can replicate the effect and 'record' it, then you can apply that effect over and over by just pressing play

I should specify, you can record a whole bunch of actions and just press play to automate them all

so like, if you create a multiply layer, adjust the transparency, then create a fill layer.... etc, as long as you record, you can get it all down to a single button press

you are able to do multiple files through photoshop, going to file > automate > batch and tweaking with the settings.

why don't you just copypaste the images you want to icon into the base icon psd as the bottom layer? you can even turn that + basic resizing into an action

you can't automate drag+drop specifically in photoshop across several open files, it's not possible the way photoshop has actions set up.

what you can do is group your filter/mask layers from your master file, copy that folder (ctrl+c is fine), and paste it onto the files you have opened (it'll auto-align as well). view all your files in tile arrangement for easier copypasting.
