I would be willing to fill out an additional app section outlining my oc's knowledge of major canon events and NPCs. Something to add some accountability and curtail the sort of fandom oc we all hate

would be super happy to do this too. all my fandom ocs i take special care in crafting them so they wouldn't step on canon character's toes, but there's so much i'd love to explore with the world building and cr with canon characters.

you know how ocs often have their own separate apps with additional sections explaining their world? could easily be done with a fandom oc too, a separate section detailing their relationships (or lackthereof) to canon characters and their place in the canon world.

I would love it if this was a possibility. I don't actually want to write a surprise long lost sibling but I sure as hell do want to explore the world and how characters live outside of the canon characters. let me talk about how my starfleet engineer knows about Kirk (because everyone knows Kirk) but has never served on the Enterprise and doesn't want, is happy repairing starbases.

I get why we tend to look askance at fandom ocs but they can be a lot of fun.

I have so many pokemon ocs that have no relation to any of the main characters or even side characters and have never interacted with them (but know of them because who wouldn't) that I just love thinking about. Pokemon sm/usum also opens up a lot of doors with the ultra worm holes which are basically canon alternate universe holes. it's ripe for fandom ocs.

a starfleet engineer sounds great and i think they'd translate well into a panfandom game too. there's lot of other cross-canon characters who'd be interested in that stuff or also work repairing things.

There are so many settings that are perfect for fandom ocs and have great connections with cross-canon characters. So much fun and potential, and it's obvious that other people exist in these settings. there are settings where fandom ocs might not work well, like maybe the mcu, but otherwise I don't want to have to create an entire world for my character when all I want is this urban fantasy setting/pokemon/star wars/whatever.

I hope your pokemon ocs get some love one day, anon! or at least a game that allows fandom ocs opens up eventually.

Dresden Files is basically made for fandom OCs, let me play my LA-based bar-owning werewolf

i read a lot of urban fantasy books, and most of them would suit a bunch of fandom ocs. mercy thompson (fae, vampire, werewolf, skinwalker, witch) of a variety of positions. kate daniels and a pantheon of animal shifters to pick from, in a variety of positions including a mercenary guild. the hollow's series and the fun of playing with the fact that humans are terrified of tomatoes. these are some of my favorite series and i would love to make a character from one of those fandoms. they don't have to be involved with the main casts, but the world setting is already laid out.
