unfortunately i've been in fandoms where protags, especially ones in a good vs evil/light vs dark setting, tend to be flanderized as pure angels who wouldn't even THINK of doing a bad thing even if they've done minorly "bad" things in canon

canon version: punched a friend to snap them out of being dumb/anxious
fanon version: sobs uncontrollably because they stepped on an ant

or worse: teenage/adult guy doing something mildly arousing and going UWAAAAAAA WHY DOES MY NO NO PLACE FEEL FUNNY??

probably going to get this frozen but whatever, my anecdotal two cents, i think a lot of it is culture bleed being unaware of where it's coming from, especially with anime as a source?

japan has a very strong obsession with purity and innocence being more about "child-like" innocence but still deeply associating virginity to that. it's still an extremely misogynistic culture where women are to be coddled and protected. there's also still a lot of sexual repression.

look at japanese porn and how much of the dialog puts emphasis on women "not knowing that's going on with their own body" and how "their body is reacting on its own". it's the idea their innocence is sexy, and that someone is making their body do things they've never experienced before.

this goes hand in hand with some m/m hentai and porn as well where there's an element of purity and innocence about to be debauched, even if none of the inexperience and extreme purity and innocence for the character's ages seems remotely appropriate to western culture

so if they're playing from animanga or were exposed to it, there's probably that culture bleed coming in? it's not unreasonable an inexperienced or ill informed person rping a 18 year old character also thinks it's appropriate for them to go "uwaaa why's my pee pee hard". they're only reflecting what that particular media has informed them of, intentionally or not. it's culturally acceptable and normal in japan. it's weird and infantile in western cultures.

and who knows, like anon said above there might be subsets of western culture who also have "purity and repression" as a kink

in my experience it isn't that weird in western cultures, it's just that we express it differently and it doesn't come up as often in no romantic media. but if you jump for example in new adult books, boy the emphasis on virgin women is pretty big

because a lot of societies are conservative about sex and it leaks through in media, which is why villains are seen as more sexual and deviant but heroes have to be chaste and blush at just a peck on the lips. its not new.
