galo has a similar look and personality to kamina, an important character in ttgl, and there's a lot of visual similarities, but the plot isn't the same at all.

Galo is basically Kamina, one of the three leada of Gurren Lagann, and you could make an argument that Lio is similar to Viral, Kamina's rival, in some ways. And theres a lot of shared animation staff, so visually theyre similar.

But tone/plotwise theyre almost nothing alike. Gurren Lagann is about progress, excess, and is a love letter to old super robot shows like Getter Robo. Promare feels like its main theme is trust?

You might still enjoy it because of the visual similarities if you enjoyed the animation in promare, and there are some moments where you can see that a lot of the same people made both, but I wouldn't go into it expecting promare 0.5 or anything

Galo is basically Kamina,

i have no idea why people say this. they both have loud and proud personalities but galo is firmly in a wide-eyed rookie role while kamina is a mentor. him being ignorant to a lot of the burnish's struggles and then growing to understand all of that was a huge thing in the movie. kamina had no such arc because kamina wasn't a character that was slated to learn and grow.

kamina had a bit of an arc, it just got sidelined since he was simon's mentor. the stuff with his dad mostly.

i honestly don't think i'd be able to much get into gurren lagann which is a shame, but i was curious since a lot of people were saying they're basically the same, but from what i've read and what people have said here i'd be inclined to disagree

i appreciate you all giving me the rundown!
