chortles fatly

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

pretty sure they opened a musebox too. just based on the timestamps and the comm description writing style for these last two additions at DedOrAlive

plus the castmates community linked in the review community, all within like two weeks of each other. if the way they're handling interaction here wasn't enough to put someone off joining one of their games them trying to do six different things sure as hell will be.

ij, fandom or original, was a really disposable culture as i recall. i haven't actively sought anything out in maybe two years but it's a) not all celeb (i don't know here people get the idea it's even majority celeb tbh) and b) there is fandom, but a lot of it is basically "skim a wikipedia page" and "i can play any character!" which lbr, is never really the case. why whole-ass one when you can less than half-ass them all?

people typically would move from game to game to game with each other with ocs and create new comms with similar premises or even entirely different ones vs. just changing things about the one they're in. they also delete/purge accounts super fast so there's also that.

i always found ij to be simultaneously always more ignorant about what they were playing but always more snooty and faux-knowledgeable. kind of a tumblrina style talking down and again I CAN DO IT ALL + disposable culture, which was often based on pbs and character appearance (you'd sooner get people saying they want you to claim X or Y face for family or husbands or whatnot than an actual description of what they wanted for that line).

fun note, though! we took "psl" from gj/ij.

i play on both and am well aware of the do all the things that exists in most games there, but this is excessive even for ij standards. they're also trying to open a game there now.

just curious but do the players on ij skew younger or older than dw?

anon who plays on both - i mostly see 30s and mid to late 20s and i know there's a handful that have hit 40. at least on the fandom end.

waaaaaaaaay older.

a lot of them i met are in their mid-late 30s, with the youngest being in their mid 20s.

a good thing i can say about ij is that they're willing to pay for services from proven providers. i know several people and friends who can make good money there when offering stuff - mostly codes like layouts and stuff + fanart - if they have a good history/backing to their name.

that and there are way more resources and willingness to compile stuff for future ease, like non-popular pbs, specific pb needs (scars, period setting, space setting), and stuff like that.

how old do you think people on dw are? most of them seem to be mid 20s to 40s. there's a few 50s scattered in our group too. are you sure you're not thinking tumblr?

did we not do a survey that showed the age group being in the mid 20s / late 20s crowd? because i remember that floating around for a while.

and tumblr is a different beast altogether fme. somehow has the worst of both ij and dw from my experience with the extreme disposable culture of ij + the anxiety chichuauas and pretentious shiny syndrome of dw.

pretty sure the age group was mid twenties-thirties and that was about four/five years ago. so that means thirties to forties for those that stayed around. not that new blood doesn't come in, but i know that if i were to go look at my cr, the youngest is probably 29 and the oldest 46. that's just in my personal cr circle, and i know that branching out from that, most people that still stay around are hitting thirty or just over it by now. most of us came from lj at our early-mid twenties range, 10 years go. add that up.
